Super Bowl Question

With Billy Joel singing the national anthem, and Prince doing the halftime show, who do they figure is the Super Bowl's target audience?

Everybody.

I always thought that the target audience for the Super Bowl was every living man, woman, and child in America, if not the world.

People who like musicians who are 20+ years past their prime.

On the other hand, I've been a fan of both Joel and Prince for a long time. But I don't like football so I didn't watch.

Joel did the Anthem in Miami back in 1989 (49ners-Bengals). No clue why exactly he of all people got chosen, maybe something to do with "Miami 2017" or something, who knows...

Prince, The Stones (though considering the Stones' history it makes you wonder who thought they'd be a "safe" choice, ditto with Prince actually) and Paul McCartney have been brought in because they are considered "safe" acts that will not go off the reservation the way Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake did a few years back.

Given that there was - legitimate - concern that they have Motown and soul acts at the Detroit Super Bowl, why not Gloria Estefan here? Or KC and the Sunshine Band? Or Jimmy Buffett?

They should just play the National Anthem over the PA system or have an instrumental version played live by a band,I can't remember the last time I heard it sung well at a sporting event..

My daughter does a great rendition of The Star Spangled Banner.

Because all have a relatively limited following, meguess.

Granted, if Prince could have been any better, it would have been by (1) reforming the Revolution and (2) playing a Super Bowl in the Metrodome.

You don't think there's a big KC and the Sunshine Band fan base?

I actually saw them circa 1991, in their first reunion since their heyday. Spirited, but the crowd was hungry for Big Daddy Kane and LL Cool J, and weren't very kind to the chubby balding white guy.

How well do you sing "Everything's Coming Up Roses"?

Me - I don't sing.

She could definitely handle that tune.

Prince @ The Super Bowl courtesy of YouTube (at least until the NFL/CBS/Pepsi file a claim)

I think the only way it could have been better would be a surprise appearance of Sheen Easton for "U Got the Look".

"...boy versus girl in the Super Bowl of love."

Dang, hijacked already. Thanks for trying, Willets :)
