Alomar Hat Trick!!

The New York Mets today signed catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training. He is expected to join the team and be in uniform on Tuesday.
Alomar, 40, appeared in 27 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2006 before being traded to the Chicago White Sox on July 23rd. With the two teams, Sandy hit a combined .278 (30-108) with eight doubles, one home run and 30 RBI in 46 games.

This will complete the Alomar family if he gets into a ML game.

Innuresting move.
Guess it gives us (potentially) better offense if/when Casto goes down again.

I wasn't counting on catching depth being a strong suit, but... uh, not sure if this helps?

It seems like every team throws bones to sons of coaches and sons of suits. Problem is that Jonathan Schuerholz may be a player and Chris Duncan certainly is, while Sandy Jr. and Matt Galante, Jr., not so much.

I just figured the Mets needed an extra catcer to keep all the Spring Training pitchers loose and active-- don't see him sticking beyond that.

My sense is that Sandy Jr. might, if necessary, become this year's Kelly Stinnett.

Who's slated to be this years catcher for the Tides Zephyrs anyway?
