...have won their first two big league starts, and done it with the Mets.

Who?

Brian Bannister

Brian Bannister ND'd in his first start, as Billy Wagner coughed up the lead and Jorge Julio blew up the stadium.

Mike Pelfrey.

Mike Pelfrey is one, coasting to a five-and-fly win in front of Kase, Iubitel, Scarlet and myself, as Jose Valentin drove in seven with his first two swings, and then pumping out six innings as he beat the Reds 10 days later.

Pure guessing here. Gooden?

That's a good guess, ultimately a wrong one, as Doc got battered in the fifth inning of his second start in Chicago.

Those first two season, Doc really reeled off the wins in the second half.

More pure guessing: Rick Anderson? Terry Leach?

One guess at a time. No to Rick Anderson, who ND'd his first two starts.

Both of our last two are westerners. One pitched an absolutely remarkable game in his second start.

Bobby Jones?

Whoah!

No to Fresno (assuming you both mean Fresno), who was clobbered by the Rocks in start two.

He should have known it was a bad day when he saw Charlie O'Brien batting second.

El Sid? You don't get much Westerner than that.

Sid disqualified himself by logging his first start as a Dodger. He turned around and slammed down wins in his first three Metly starts.

Good guess!

OE: Masato Yoshii could be more westerner --- or Jae Weong Seo. They're so west, they're east.

Dick Selma and Gary Gentry.

Remember it being noted at the time of Pelfrey's first two W's.

Kablamm!

Check out Selma's superstellar second start. Flashback to that some Friday.

A couple of notes:

1) Special thanks to Sandy Alomar for getting caught stealing and helping his future team to victory.

2) What's with Ron Hunt. He's credited with a pinch-hit appearance, but no at-bat, no walk, no hit-by-pitch, and wasn't pinch-hit for himself in a Davey Johnson turnaround maneuver. Did he reach on interference?

Yeah, it's down there on the bottom but my brain damage kicked in and I missed it.

Be honest, you're trying to come up with a blog with a title borrowed from each entry in the Prince 500.

No, but now that you mention it, looks like I have my assignment.

"Tall Cool One" isn't a TFS -- Top Five-Hundred Smash as it's known around the house (we also refer to the Top Five Hundred itself as the TFS, acronymic accuracy be damned), but I've always had a weakness for lyrical headlines. My first-ever FAFIF hed, at the beginning of Spring Training 2005, was "I Can See Carlos Now".

Johnny Nash didn't make the TFS either.
