Or, more accurately, El Duque HAS a pain in the neck.

he "has been sent to New York for an examination, suffering from neck discomfort" according to GM Omar Minaya

Jorge Sosa, come on down.

Oh, well. This may be a thinly disguised blessing, in that it gives some of the younger guys more of a chance to pitch.

I heard Chan Ho Park karate kicked him

you already know my feelings on el duque. if this increases the chances of the Mets breaking camp with Pelfrey/Humber i'm happy. if this just cements Park into the rotation i'm not so happy.

But Duque is NY and play-off tested..we need him...

That you preferred Benson over him and Maine?

I don't think we're going to end up burying Pelfrey either way.

I had him missing the first turn in the rotation anyway, so this strengthens my hand in the "first-5-starters" contest (I've got to have something after coming in second in the Free Agent Prediction Contest and in the final 4 in the Parody Contest).

That was last year. I'm only interested in licking this year's wounds.

So El Duque's 150 IP season starts in May instead of starting in April. He was going to go down at some point this year. One good thing comes out of this, though. My Glavine/Maine/Sele/Perez/Sosa starting rotation prediction is one step closer to fruition. Wait, that's not really a good thing.

Pelfrey needs to go to AAA and be solid with his other pitches.

I predict we'll have a splurge of starters come ASB with both hernandez and pedro coming back at around the same time.

We're counting our chickens a little bit here. Hernandez's neck may be fine by Saturday.

I don't get it. I think anybody sensible among us accounted for the probablility of injuries in the rotation, even before the season starts. That's why the Mets stocked up.

What I don't see is Jose Lima. Could happen, I guess. The guy had an awesome winter in the Dominican. But the Mets have two fistfuls of options right now.

El Duque has arthritis:

]Orlando Hernandez was diagnosed today with arthritis at the base of his neck and received a cortisone shot. He is expected to rejoin the team tomorrow in Port St. Lucie and be ready to throw again in three to four days. El Duque returned to New York this morning after complaining of discomfort in his upper back and neck.

Glavine, Maine, Pelfrey, Perez, Humber, Park, Vargas, Heilman, Martinez, Hernandez, Soler...

If 5 of these guys are standing, theres no reason to bring up Lima.

Edgy DC
Feb 22 2007 10:45 PM

Well, no good reason, anyhow.

It takes two to replace one such as Hernandez.

New York Mets: Agreed to terms with LHP Mike Bynum and RHP Jose Santiago on minor league contracts.
I'm going to assume that's the same Jose Santiago that came up in 2005 as a veteran and got six innings in before getting hurt.

"lima time" was a joke. I'm just a nervous met fan venting on a forum that I discovered 2 months ago. I guess growing up as a met/nyg/nyr/fucking knick fan ( in that order), makes me a little uncomfortable.

PS: i don't care how good mr. lima did in the dominican league. i'd rather see saberhagen pitch again for the mets. why not, we're still paying him.

Edgy DC

I don't care what you don't care about. You brought the guy up.

If it's a joke, please try a new one. You must've made the Lima one a half dozen times now.

I don't know why rooting for the Mets makes you uncomfortable.

We're still paying Saberhagen?

he has a bonilla type contract. i believe it stretches out to 2017. rooting for the mets does not make me uncomfortable, it makes me happy.

and, if you don't like humor (good or bad) that is not my problem, it's yours.
