Looks like [url=http://www.boston.com/business/articles/2007/02/20/sirius_plans_to_buy_xm_in_46_billion_stock_deal/]Sirius is buying up XM[/url] which will effectually merge the two companies. I started subscribing to XM a couple of months ago and love it way more than I should love something I bought (nevermind that weekend in Thailand). The music channels at XM rule and I love my Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour and the MLB package, too. That said, it would be cool to have the NBA and Fox Soccer Channels, too. Wonder what this really means for current subscribers of each service? Increased programming variety. Just one company to chose from...

Let's see how the FTC (not FCC) reacts. Seems to me the real ripoff with these guys is the exclusive equipment. You know, if I could buy a radio with AM, FM and Satellite bands (available to you if you subscribe), I'd be WAY more willing to give it a shot. edit -- otoh, MLB & Stern together would be awfully tempting. I never found anything to replace Howard.

I would have thought you could easily hire a dwarf to sit on your head every morning and hit you repeatedly with a ballpeen hammer while stuttering into your ear about retarded hermaphrodites dating nazi queers. Some of the factory and after-market car stereos offer generic satellite receivers, able to pick up either or both products. I haven't seen a third-party satellite receiver for sale that can pick up either feed. Imagine that might change if there's just one feed to pick up. The exclusive equipment (some models) also gives you the option to take your receiver inside and connect it to your home stereo system and get the feed. XM lets you stream any of the channels (excluding sporting events) from your computer, so that's what I'm always listening to at home on a computer with a wicked sound card and speakers. ]edit -- otoh, MLB & Stern together would be awfully tempting. I never found anything to replace Howard. I never was a Stern fan. XM has Opie and Anthony as their shock guys and they're just terrible. When you're not funny and you're not insightful, just say "fuck" a lot. But leave out the ballpeen hammer, and I would never miss a show with dwarves, retarted hermaphrodites, nazi queers, or any combination of those three.
