Weird Royalty Stuff

I haven't been able to find a photo, but a guy in my office says that Prince Harry, Chuck and Di's youngest boy, is in the British military and may be sent to Iraq. Apparently, the name tag on his uniform says WALES, as in Prince of Wales. He uses WALES as his last name? I need confirmation please.

I'd think it would be "Windsor."

The Army refers to him as the Cornet of Wales....

I am so glad our Founding Fathers opted against having royalty and aristocracy here in America.

Instead of having to worry about princes and queens and stuff like that, we can focus on important stuff, like Britney's bald head.

Monarchs and royalty don't really have a last name per se; their dynasty is the House of Windsor (originally Wettin), but that's slightly different.

It would probably be the same for any Duke, Marquess, Earl, Viscount or Baron in the army.

When the Queen signs things she frequently does so as; Elizabeth R.
R, as in Regent

Carlos Beltran came up with the Royals and was the 1999 Rookie of the Year.

You mean inbred nazi fuckers. Uh, just kidding (kinda).

Why the hell's this kid going to Iraq anyway when his country is pulling out
22% of their troops? It's just too bizarre for me comprehend. Dude's a prince,
second or third in the throne line ... does he just want to go play army.

Long tradition of royals serving, with frequently the second son seeing action. (I have no idea how much this action may or may not be distorted.) His Uncle Andy flew a helicopter in the Falklands.

I can't wait until Blair's term is up and I can be Prime Minister. It's the best job in the world. All you have to do is take care of the Queen, stand in the middle of Parliament and let a bunch of old British guys whine, and do whatever the President of the United States says.

Sweet gig.

I'm aware of the tradition. I guess it's the timing of all this that seems
weirder to me than anything. One by one, countries are and are going
to seek to get the hell out of there and a member of the royal family is
strapping on his boots to march into battle. Doesn't seem like tradition
to me .. it sounds more like a little soft in the noggin'.

their laws prevent his older brother, who is second in line to the throne, from combat duty.

I think its his unit's turn to take their rotation. It's not like he chose now to volunteer.

I guess it just me, hope he doesn't get his head blown off. The ensuing
coverage, drama, books, and movies will be unbearable. Then ten years
from now, the anniversary investigation into WHY it happened - was there
a link to Di?

I would expect Jenna or Barbara to enlist pretty soon. Can't have the Brits outdoing us in our own war.

Eubank arrested after Whitehall protest over prince's deployment

Andrew Culf, sports correspondent

The Guardian

Former world boxing champion Chris Eubank was arrested yesterday after driving his truck up and down Whitehall in a protest against the decision to send Prince Harry to serve in Iraq.
Eubank, dressed in a cream suit and silver tie, was arrested for an alleged breach of the peace and taken to Charing Cross police station after the horn-blaring protest involving a large, black lorry with his name emblazoned on the side.

A banner on the back of the truck proclaimed: "Blair, don't send our young prince to your catastrophic illegal war to make it look plausible."
Scotland Yard confirmed: "We have arrested a man in Whitehall for breach of the peace."

Eubank's lawyer, Mel Goldberg, said he was aware of his client's arrest but had no further details. Eubank, who lives in Hove, East Sussex, was seen on BBC News 24 talking to police officers before apparently becoming involved in an argument and being escorted to a police van.

The former middleweight and super middleweight champion has an HGV licence and owns an American Peterbilt 379 truck cab as well as the only Hummer in Britain. Since his boxing career came to an end, he has revelled in his status as one of Britain's more eccentric celebrities, often dressing in jodhpurs, bowler hat and riding boots, and wearing a monocle.

In 2005 he was found guilty of illegally driving off in a beer lorry without the owner's consent. The vehicle had been blocking the way as he took his children to school in Brighton - and the draymen refused to move it. He was cleared of the more serious offence of aggravated vehicle taking, and given an absolute discharge.
