Interesting stuff today:

* Delgado out... again... and Shawn Green playing 1st base

* Milledge is in the lineup and sporting a clean-shaven head

* Batting leadoff for your defending AL Champions... Timo Perez

* Batting 2nd for the Mets ... again ... David "Ask Me Anything" Wright

* Maine v. Kenny Rogers

* Beltran wioth a 2r HR in the first, 2-0 Mets in the second

Timo leads off with a walk and --- much like he did 53% of the time as a Met --- get's caught stealing by Ramon Castro.

Two scoreless by Maine.

I have a great feeling about Maine this season.

Lastings Milledge showing solidarity with Britney Spears! I wonder if he's also going commando style.

I sure am.

Shawn Green signles to open the third. He's up to .105. Threatened, Milledge follows with a single of his own.

This team buys some versatility if they're willing to use Green at first.

Not for nothin but who in the name of Eddie Kranepool are they gonna use at first base if Delgado can't answer the bell?

I like WKRP, but I doubt he's ready, and Franco cannot be a serious option to start games. And Delgado better the hell get better, but he's 35, coming off surgery and has now sat most of the week with neck issues. Not good!

I imagine an inseason injury for Delgado initially means a platoon of Green and Franco, with Millege, Chavez, and Johnson taking Green's missing outfield at-bats. Other time will go to Newhand and Easley.

Minor league options, in order, include Wil Cordero (perhaps signed in response to Delgado's neck) and Michel Abreu, with Harper and Carper probably not available until the second half of the year.

Fate has denied us our Tagg Bozied moment.

Castro atones for his earlier inning-ending doubleplay by doubling in the Alchemist.

We're tied!

Ouch, Heilman gives up four a few days after Burgos gave up a four-run inning.

Duaner, we're sorry.

My boss (in Florida for a long weekend) called me from the game. Castro's double happened while I was on the phone with him, apparently the fielder ran headlong into the wall trying to make the play.

Wright has been replaced by Andy Tracy at third.

When did we get Andy Tracy back?

The Good:
- 3 scoreless from Maine
- Two hits from Green, including an opposite field 2B
- HR from Beltran

The Bad:
- Blow-up inning from Heilman
- Blow-up inning from Humber
- Leadoff HR surrendered by Adkins

The Ugly:
- Still no Delgado

If Delgado is out for the year (or a large part of it) at any point i think the Mets would look to acquire someone rather than play Green at 1B or rely on Julio Franco or Michel Abreu.
The question is what happens if he misses a month or so? I'd be inclined to bring up Abreu and have him split time with Green. Abreu is too old to be a prospect and is a veteran of the Cuban league...if he can't help the big club this year when will he?

You'd think if Abreu were any kind of option he'd have played in ST already but I haven't seen his name anywhere. Is he hurt?

I'm sure Green would be Plan B, seeing as he's pretty much a 1Bman already and there's many better options in the outfield.

What I'm concerned about, generally, is that the Mets beyond a few good performances here and there, have pretty much played like dogshit so far.

I heard Abreu's name among the dozen or so announced to be sent to the minor league camp today.

Abreu got into one game with no at-bats in big-league camp.
