The Mets are going with the alpa-team except for Delgado. The Cards broadcaster is saying "De Luca." The Cards are doing the starting-the-closer thing.

Wells ended up settling down while I was away, I guess. Four innings, one earned run. Burgos on for the Metscovcitches.

Lost in this latest version of offensive A& defensive suckitude was that El Ducky left the game before his scheduled departure time due to what's being called "a cramp in his hamstring" that cropped up as he was running out a sac bunt attempt. The official word is that it's not serious and supposedly he even did some extra throwing afterward ... but, as Joquin Andujar once observed, juneberno.

If he can get his work in with that big kick, I guess I'll delay panic. The lethargic offense is more of a panic. Urdaneta coughed one up in the eighth, but he may have still made this team.
