The Mets are going with the alpa-team except for Delgado.

The Cards broadcaster is saying "De Luca."

The Cards are doing the starting-the-closer thing.

Izzy freezes Beltran with a curve like his name was Adam Wainwright.

Duque pops up Pujols with a great floater.

Wells is their number two starter. He's all over the place.

Wells ended up settling down while I was away, I guess. Four innings, one earned run.

Burgos on for the Metscovcitches.

Reyes eaten up by a bouncer. Not looking good on D this spring.

]The Cards are doing the starting-the-closer thing.

makes sense when you consider that the starting position players are usually long gone by the end of a spring game, when else can you get your closer to see the good hitters in the spring?

Mets have grabbed two in the sixth. Cards lead down to 4-3.

Reyes whacks one out to tie it.

They're still saying De Luca.

Good day for Rick Ankiel.

The box score shows the winning run was unearned, but doesn't show either an error or a passed ball.
Wha' happened?

Later

Rick Ankiel happened, that's what happened. Sac fly from the big bat of the big bopper.

Lost in this latest version of offensive A& defensive suckitude was that El Ducky left the game before his scheduled departure time due to what's being called "a cramp in his hamstring" that cropped up as he was running out a sac bunt attempt.

The official word is that it's not serious and supposedly he even did some extra throwing afterward ... but, as Joquin Andujar once observed, juneberno.

If he can get his work in with that big kick, I guess I'll delay panic.

The lethargic offense is more of a panic.

Urdaneta coughed one up in the eighth, but he may have still made this team.
