Not that I miss it, but just yesterday, for some reason, I recalled the ads that Henry Fonda used to do for GAF film.

Is there even a GAF film brand anymore?

"Hey man, is that Freedom Rock?"

"Yeah, man."

"Well, turn it up, man!"

Yancy - about Fonda/GAF.
I read years ago that when he was their spokesperson, his contract called for him to appear in person at x-number of events per year. They would pay his "expenses". One year, the event was in Las Vegas and he submitted an expense report that included over $250,000 in gambling losses. They paid him, then fired him.

As for whether GAF still sells film. I think I saw some GAF film on the shelf a short while ago. But I didn't check the freshness date.

The annoying, bespectacled twerp who spoke to an unseen, off camera Encyclopedia salesman-- this was in the late 80s and I suppose with the birth of the internet, no one buys 26 volumes to clutter their bookshelf anymore.

I miss the "Be Like Mike" Gatorade commercials.

ON EDIT: I especially like the one where they have an array of stars singing the song and the commercial closes with Larry Bird looking into the camera saying "I'm not gonna sing."

"But Daaaddd, it's Smokey"

(from some low-budget record offering of Motown stuff ... that line used to
crack me up and I'd mimic it a lot)

I had the vuja de today re: this thread and couldn't place it until this jingle just
popped into my noggin' (we've had parts of this discussion before):

When the prices go up up up
And the values go down down down
Robert Hall will show you
The reason they give you
High quality, economy

Er, or something like that.

Who was that big bald dude who did the Uncola bits with the cool accent, I
think from a James Bond movie or two?

Indicating (to me anyway) that the low prices will soon be going up...

That was a cute ad, though

There was a Dial soap ad in the 70x that I really liked.

It showed a young pretty African American lady in what I assumed was Queens (it looked like Archie Bunker's neighborhood, that's the only way I would know). It showed her doing various stuff, working, meeting her boyfriend, riding a bike, etc...she had on the coolest overall shorts with a big mod flower on the bib.

The background song was ( da da da...are horn blasts)

"Aren't you glad you use dial ( da da da da DA da da)
As the day rolls on (da da da da DA da da)
Yeah Dial turns on (da da da)
Turns on your cool (da da da da DA da da)
Hour after hour....
Like a summer shower (da da da da DA da)
Aren't you glad you use dial (da da da da DA da da)
(she turns to camera and says "Don't you wish everyone did?")

Anyway, I wanted to be that girl so bad

Some women lunch at the Plaza
ski in St. Moritz
and wear expensive furs all winter.

Others just look that way!

They shop at the Ritz Thrift Shop!

The Milford Plaza "Lullabye of Broadway" ads.

KC -- you forgot "Low overhead, low overhead."

When the last Robert Hall store shut down, the Daily News ran a picture with the caption:

Robert Hall: No overhead.
