Yes, H & H is Dio-only stuff from the three albums and three new songs so as to keep it legit. Supposedly, the Radio City show at the end of this month has no support act and the set is be a little longer. I'm hoping that's the one they shoot a DVD of. I saw a picture of the stage design yesterday, but now I can't find it. I think it was on some fan page and may have been there with- out permission or something.

That's a pretty decent Police set.
I don't think I'd pay the huge ticket rices to see any of these bands. Stadium shows are kinda weird anyway.
The only band that I would pay more than $20 to see reunite (where all of the members are still living) would be Pink Floyd.
I would have said The Clash too about 5 years ago.

I wasn't all that surprised by the Police ticket prices and demand. Excepting the aforementioned theoretical Zeppelin and Floyd (with Waters and Gilmour) reunions, I don't think they get much bigger. I still can't decide on this one. I want to go but wasn't dropping $200 in the on-sale. Gametime decision.
The Crowded House reunion looks like it could be a lot of fun. I saw Neil and Tim Finn when they toured a few years ago -- a very solid show.
The Genesis reunion was a much bigger draw in Europe. The pick of Giants Stadium was surprising but the very-limited, we're-sticking-to-the core-markets-only approach says they're waiting to see how ticket sales go in, say, Columbus, before expanding the tour. Their ticket prices (essentially the same as the Police - $225, $125, $80, $50 - was very surprising. Didn't think they could get that. I blame Michael Cohl, the devil of concert promoters.
Theoretically, I'd just go to all 3 -- but I'm not sure if I can do it without breaking my cardinal rule -- I've never paid more than $100 for a concert ticket.

I'm pretty Iggilliterate. When I was becoming a white dope on punk in the late 70's, my friend's older brother (the guy with the state of the art stereo and guitars and amps and knew dj's on the really low FM freqs and bought us beer and had good weed and liked hanging out with us more than going and working or finding a girl) used to play that stuff all the time but for some reason it never took with us. We liked it, but it didn't stick after not hanging out in the basement.
What two or three albums should one download to educate oneself?

Every Stooges album is pretty good. There's really only 3 I know of (The Stooges, Fun House, Raw Power), and my personal favorite is Fun House.
I've never really gotten into any of Iggy's solo stuff though. I like his work with other artists. He did great work recently with some European band called Teddybears. They did a dance pop song called "I'm a Punk Rocker" which I thought was an awesome song...until it showed up in a Cadillac commercial.

The thing is the playing on the Stooges albums is spotty, but the energy and fire is beyond belief.
His solo career is strange. Bowie keeps showing up every five or ten years and simultaneously saving him (by helping him complete his songs or covering them, and producing a slick commercial album for him) and ruining him (by producing a slick commercial album for him).
He was absolutely down and out by the middle eighties when he started getting a windfall of royalty checks after Bowie covered "Chna Girl" and "Tonight."
Bowie than produced Blah Blah Blah, an embarrassingly glossy album that nonetheless relaunched his career. Strangley, he sings the whole thing in this post-Elvis baritone instead of his usual nasal squeal. His followup album, Instinct, was just awesome. Bill Laswell (Ramones' Brain Drain, Eno, Golden Palminos, John Zorn) produces and the Sex Pistols' Steve Jones is on guitar.
Iggy's limitation is that his songwriting is spotty, and on a typical record his guitarist or producer gets co-writer credit on most tracks. His strength is his energetic live performances and his terrifying appearance.
Good solo records include Instinct, Lust for Life, New Values.
If you likey, try The Idiot, Zombie Birdhouse, Brick by Brick.

Raw Power is very controversial. To some, it was their best album. To others, it's an abomination, because Bowie did the final mix. It's pretty cool how it opens with "Search & Destroy," which is like inside-out heavy metal. It opens with the bass-and-drums thundering for 12 bars or so, you set the volume appropriately, but then guitar and vocals come in much higher, shoot the needle into the red, and, if you're not ready, can damage your speakers (or your ears if you're on the headphones).
It's still pretty raw to me, and if Bowie's name wasn't there, I doubt peeps would've been bothered complaining.
Fun House is a fun Halloween record.

The One-Song Concert
The Who’s lead singer, Roger Daltrey, walked off the stage during the band’s first song at a concert in Tampa, Fla., on Tuesday night, and the guitarist Pete Townshend then announced that the show would be canceled and rescheduled for March 25. A note on the band’s Web site (thewhotour.com) said that Mr. Daltrey “experienced vocal challenges as a result of a medical condition.â€

Recently Pete called Roger "the least important member of the Who" -- and that is hard to disagree with. Pete, John Entwhistle and Keith Moon can be considered among the greatest songwriters, bass players and drummers but no one considers Roger among the great singers.
Friends of mine were at the Who concert near San Francisco during the Quadrophenia tour when Keith Moon collapsed and a replacement drummer was needed (actually a great drummer I knew in high school was frantically trying to be the one picked instead they picked some apparently pretty lame guy from the crowd).
Therefore, couldn't they just get some guy up on stage to sing the Roger parts or have Pete do them all. Since calling Pete and Roger plus Pete Pallodino, Zach Starkey and Pete's brother the Who is already an insult to the real Who, I don't see why replacing Roger could make it any less Who-like.
|
Edgy DC Mar 15 2007 09:01 AM

It's pretty hard to dispute that he was the least important member, but, since he's the the last surviving member, it's probably dickie to remind him of that.
I think replacing Roger would make it 50% less Who-like.

I think I read once that the biggest impediment to the Replacements reunion is not Stinson or even Westerberg but Mars (who I note played some percussion/sang backing vocals but did not play drums on those two new songs they did).
I saw Westerberg on his tour a couple of years ago and it was amazing if only to hear him sing Little Mascara and Can't Hardly Wait.
Survey says this one isn't happening until somebody needs to put their kids through college.

Van Halen is back on the road. Lineup:
Vocals: David Lee Roth (first time on tour with them since 1984) Guitar: Eddie Van Halen Bass: Wolfgang Van Halen (he's 16 now) Drums: Alex Van Halen
Michael Anthony remains, to this day, the only bassist from any of the band's shows and recordings. His leaving the group was somewhat linked to his loyalty to Sammy Hagar, but negotiations with Roth were reportedly tenuous because of Roth's loyalty to Anthony. Messed up.

the ZOMBIES ranked 9th out of 25, on the 3rd Tier of British Invaders
http://cranepoolforum.qwknetllc.com/php ... n&start=20
Tiers of the British Invaders
To qualify, the band (including lead artist) must have:
1 - come from England, Scotland, Wales, or even Ireland;
2 - been known primarily as rock or pop group; and
3 - Then came to the U.S. in mid-60s and had at least 1 top 40 hit
#1 -- the Big 3 1) The Beatles 2) Rolling Stones 3) The Who
#2 -- just short of paradise 4) The Kinks 5) Eric Clapton - The Yardbirds / John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers / Cream / Blind Faith / Derek & the Dominoes 6) Van Morrison /Them 7) Steve Winwood- The Spencer Davis Group / Traffic / Blind Faith
#3 -- short-lived, but critically acclaimed, with enduring legacies 8) The Animals / Eric Burdon 9) The Zombies / Rod Argent 10) The Hollies / Graham Nash
#4a -- off the beaten track 11) Donovan 12) Dusty Springfield 13) Moody Blues
#4b -- pure hitmeisters of the Mersey beat: 14) Herman's Hermits 15) The Dave Clark Five 16) The Searchers 17) Peter and Gordon 18) Chad & Jeremy
#5 -- 1 hit (or few-hit) wonders 19) Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas 20) Wayne Fontana & the Mindbenders 21) Freddie and the Dreamers 22) Manfred Mann 23) The Troggs 24) The Tornadoes 25) Tremeloes
Regarding some of other bands: * Pink Floyd - during their Syd Barrett era of the 60s, they had little impact in the U.S. They took off as a 1970-s post-invasion band. * The Move / ELO - ditto * Small Faces - They were big in the UK, but had little impact in the US, ever. * The Pretty Things - ditto * The Bonzo Dog Band - ditto ditto * Hendrix - Band may have been Brits, but he most definitely was not. You don't get to invade your own country. * Petula Clark - more MOR than pop; not quite Dusty Springfield.

This could have saved the economy.

LONDON (Reuters) - Former Led Zeppelin lead singer Robert Plant has put paid to persistent rumors that the British rock giants were planning to reunite for a tour. The famous foursome got back together for a one-off charity gig in London last December, and the media has speculated ever since that they could stage a comeback tour that would be expected to sell out arenas around the world.
Band insiders have said that Plant, who is touring the United States with Alison Krauss, has been the most reluctant to get back together, and a statement on his website on Monday made clear his intentions.
"Robert Plant and Alison Krauss are currently touring the USA on the last leg of their 'Raising Sand' tour," he said, adding that the tour finished on October 5.
"After those dates, Robert has no intention whatsoever of touring with anyone for at least the next two years.
"Contrary to a spate of recent reports, Robert Plant will not be touring or recording with Led Zeppelin."
He called the reports "both frustrating and ridiculous," before adding: "I wish (guitarist) Jimmy Page, (bassist/instrumentalist) John Paul Jones and (drummer) Jason Bonham nothing but success with any future projects."
Bonham's father John died in 1980 after a drinking binge, prompting the demise of a group that created hits like "Stairway to Heaven" and "Whole Lotta Love," and has sold more than 300 million albums and influenced countless bands.
