3/21 IGT vs. Dodgers

Game's on locally so I get my first glimpse of the Mets this spring.

Your New York Mets:

Reyes - SS
Wright - 3B
Beltran - CF
Delgado - 1B
Easley - 2B
Milledge - RF
Johnson - LF
Castro - C
Perez - P

Kuo's (lefty, tough on us last year) is on the hill for LA.

Reyes 1, Dodgers 0.

Jose hits an infield single to short, steals second, steals third and scores on a wild pitch.

The third of steal steal of third was especially cool. Delgado was up and the Dodgers had a shift on with the third baseman shaded way over in the hole. Reyes saw how far the third baseman was from the bag, waited for Kuo to put his head down and then he took off, strolling into third without a throw.

With the shift still on, Reyes got half way down the line to third, which freaked Kuo out and he ended up throwing a wild pitch. 8th and 9th steals of the spring.

Wright K'd looking, (looked like he was trying to go to the right side and move Reyes over), Beltran flied out, and Delgado struck out. Kuo looked pretty good. Better than the Mets gay, 2-button pullover little league tops.

Easley makes a nice diving stab on a grounder to his left and throws out Ivan De Jesus Jr. at first.

The Dodgers put the names on the backs of their uni's again this year, but young De Jesus doesn't have one above his #81.

1-0 after 2.

Don't fuck with DeJesus.

Reyes walks on 5 pitches to start the third. He steals second and Kuo's pitch during the steal sailed to the backstop, letting Reyes move around to third base.

Wright flew out to right, Beltran walked, Delgado bounced out scoring Reyes, and Easley popped out to center to end the inning.

Kuo's come undone. 4 walks, 4 wild pitches.

I hope Wright doesn't take this second hitter thing too literally, taking a lot of good pitches to hit and trying to hit behind the runner instead of just smacking the ball.

It's on KCAL here. Vin Scully in the booth.

When ABNSeo says the game is on locally, he means that HIS local team is showing it, not ours. It's on FAN here.

Wright batting 2nd again. Now LoDuca isn't playing, Castro is - but it is encouraging that WWSB isn't sticking Easley or someone else up there just to be the #2 hitter du-jour.

Reyes running wild.
First the play ABNS mentioned, then he stole 2nd on his next AB then got up from his dive and took 3rd when the catcher (Lieberthal) didn't retrieve the passed ball quickly enough. Then scored on a groundout.

Yeah, sorry 'bout that.

Ollie got out unscathed in the third, but it could've been ugly. He walked Marlon Anderson on 4 pitches, went to 2-0 on the next guy before getting him, got Juan Pierre to pop up, gave up a hard single to Olmeido Seinz, before Adam LaRoche flew out to Ben Johnson's waiting glove on the warning track in left to end the inning. It looked just like a 3-run bomb might look when he hit it, though.

Pierre shaved his mustache and now looks like an adorable 9-year old boy.

My neighbor came over after that and I missed all of the Mets half of the 4th. Mets tacked on 3 more, though, 5-nil going to the bottom of the inning.

Perez through 4 shutout innings, just 2 hits allowed.

I love the zeros and don't care how he gets them.

I enjoyed listening to Scully the last three years when I could get games.
MLB has probably robbed me of that baseball treasure this year unless I
want to watch on a 17' computer screen.

I did what I had to do for a few years with the baseball on the computer, and I'm glad I had it instead of nothing, but I'm really looking forward to getting to watch the games this year on a regular TV.

I love Vin, too. Tons of neat anecdotes about the players, their families, their upbringing, etc. By the third game of the series, some of the repeat material sounds stale, but a man's gotta say stuff more than once occasionally when he calls his games solo.

Perez cruises through the 5th. A single and 2 K's.

Dodgers score an unearned run on an infield hit, David Wright throwing error, and a sac fly.

Wright singles to right following Reyes' third hit and Vin tells us that Wright is showing his manager that he can hit to the right side behind his runner, having done so three times tonight.

That's not bad, is it?

Is it?

Beltran doubles to deep center, Reyes scores, Wright out at home.

6-1 Mets.

Lino Urdaneta has me convinced. He may take Smith's alleged spot if they get gunshy about hyperpromoting him.

Vin Scully might be worth investing in a bigger monitor.
