Relievers: They're so damn mercurial.

Source: Sanchez to Have Shoulder Surgery
Duaner Sanchez is headed for a second surgery on his surgically repaired right shoulder, a source told the Daily News. The Mets have yet to announce the procedure. Sanchez heard a pop while throwing on the mound Thursday for the first time since Aug. 1 surgery to repair a separated shoulder.

I had pretty much given up on getting anything out of Duaner for 2007 or, perhaps, ever again.

This only induces a shrug from me.

Actually, yes. Looking forward to the inevitable Edgardo Alfonso Bobblehead night.

Seeya, Duaner.

Wonder if Duaner pushed himself too much at the wrong time to prove he's not a lazy ass?

"several months" is the (Eddie C.) word on Duaner

The "pop" he heard was some combination of a stress fracture in the shoulder somewhere plus something with attached ligaments and so on.

Sounds the best we're looking at is a September callup.

Willie - " I wasn't depending on him anyway so I really have no reaction"..

well that beats all year, but at this point he's gotta be lumped in with pedro under "if you get anything out of him thats greatbut dont count on it"

The news made me want to throw up in my mouth.
I felt that Smith would be with the team out of spring, but if he wasn't really ready for the majors, he clould be replaced by Sanchez when he returned.
This could have a ripple effect, with Adkins now making the team - subtraction by addition.
I hope Smith is ready.

I don't see it that way,Willie will probably lean more on Heilman and Schoeneweis is more than just a lefty specialist, signing Mota is looking like a key move by Omar.

Any chance that a team with relievers to spare (like maybe the Twins) could use Shawn Green? I'd be willing to eat most of the contract to make it happen.

Doesn't Green have a no trade clause?..

Nymr83
Mar 27 2007 05:19 PM

yeah but he might also have a "gee i'd better go start for the Twins now that the Mets have told me to accept the trade or ride the pine behind milledge" feeling.

smg58

Plus he's already waived the no-trade clause once. (Or did he waive it to go to Arizona in the first place as well?)

I figure it wouldn't hurt to ask around, at any rate.

Green certainly hasn't had a good spring and I wouldn't cry if he was dealt for something else useful ... but he's also only 34 and should have a reasonable chance of at least being average.
IOW, we probably shouldn't be so quick to stick him in the addition by subtraction category.

Edgy DC

Addition by subtraction almost never exists.

Even if he's replaced by Milledge, Johnson, or Alhaji Freakin' Turay, he's still got value as a lefthanded bench player with power, something we didn't have all of last year except during the time when Floyd was recuperating.
