ZAMBRANO'S MET PITCH: Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano is using the Mets as leverage in his contract extension negotiations in Chicago, which he's threatened to cut off if he's not signed by Opening Day. "I like the Yankees, but I don't see myself pitching at Yankee Stadium. Too many rules," Zambrano told SI.com. "If I play in New York, it's going to be with the Mets. I pay zero attention to this sort of stuff -- particularly when it's all expressed about a theoretical occurance (he may not ever get to FAgency) that won't occur for another 7 months if at all. And even if he truly means it now - and you'll note he left some wiggle room - let's see if he still means when the zeros start to hit the offer sheets. Johnny Damon flat out stated he'd NEVER sign with the Yanquis and did so in mid-season of the year he'd eventually sign. Although I guess it beats hearing the opposite.

FK is made of stronger fiber than I. I just read that and had to wipe the drool from my chin. But you're right. It's all posturing at this point. Still, he does hit well. And the pitching ain't store brand cereal either.

I don't give it much weight either. But it's nice to see somebody say, "I'm willing to pitch in New York, but NOT for the Yankees." I can't help it; it makes me like the guy. What "rules" are he referring to? Is it the whole "honor the pinstripes" thing. That would stick in my craw, too.

Zambrano's a bit of a loud, demonstrative type so it's probably the thought of being pressured to behave like a Stepford Baseball player that's turning him off. That and having to lick Jeter's cleats clean before every game.
