Countdown to 300 wins: Tom Glavine
SteveJRogers Mar 31 2007 10:23 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Jul 10 2007 04:05 PM |
10 wins shy means this thread will be slipping off to the third, fourth and fifith page by the time Glavine passes 19th Century hurler Bobby Matthews and makes himself the 23rd winningest pitcher in the game's history.

Interesting tidbit on Pud Galvin, who apparently injected monkey testosterone in a n effort to gain a competitive advantage:

Well, Clemens resumes his "active leader" role today!

BTW, another interesting tidbit I dug out is that the 10 seasons as Brave teammates from 93-02 for Glavine and Maddux will break a record for most years as teammates for a pair of future or current 300 Game Winners (there have never been more than two future or current 300 Game Winners on the same team in a given year) the current record is 5:

BTW, inneresting thing, Warren Sphan's last year on the Braves was Phil Niekro's first and thanks to the 1987 Braves wanting to give Knuksie "One Last Go Round" the last day of the regular season, Phil Niekro ended up being a teammate of Tom Glavine in Glavine's debut season!

Being the good sport that he is Tom got his hair buzzed after the game.

BTW the answer to the trivia question for the most future and/or current 300 game winners on a team's All Time Roster is the Boston/Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves with 8

Notice I didn't add the fact that Glavine is now 5 more wins shy of 300

Okay, we're cool.

Speaking of Mathews, interesting thing about HOF pitchers is that for the most part, the only 19th century hurlers in the HOF are those with 300 or more wins

Looks like we have an excellent chance of preventing win # 350 (7th all-time) for Ass-Head Friday night

Okay, time to start placing bets, which comes first, 300 Wins for Glavine, or 3,000 Ks for Pedro.

Glavine will get 200 losses before he gets 300 wins (if he gets 300 wins).

Watch Glavine and Bonds flub it in 2007 season..Too funny but fitting in a year most pro athletes are being exposed for the cheating scumbags they are in most if not all sports....Baseball feels like its in a sinkhole....

I'd hope # 300 is a gem like tonights.

If it's going to happen at home, Glavine needs to get wins in his next two starts (at LA, vs. PIT). After that, his next two starts will be on the road in Milwaukee and Chicago.

It would be nice for him to do it like Seaver did, with a complete game.
|
Edgy DC Jul 15 2007 05:53 AM |
Seaver had the DH thingie working on his side. Glavine might've at least come out for the bottom of the ninth last night if he hadn't had to bat in the top half.

He can do it on the road. The dude's responsible for 27 Braves' wins against the Mets, so I don't really feel the need to celebrate all his wins. Maybe when he wins 300 in a Mets uniform.

It's kinda cool to see, no? I mean, he is a hall-of-famer and all that. Primarily, though, I was hoping he'd do it at home then because it would mean he was pitching well and/or the team winning.

I think it's great, with RJ talking about retiring it could be years before any pitcher gets a shot at win # 300.I wonder if Selig will go watch Glavine Tuesday.

Well, considering that Glavine's next shot will be in Bud's hometown it's certainly possible - and
