Bobby Mathews 297 Tom Glavine 293 7 more wins to 300 Interesting tidbit, Glavine has 2,492 Ks in his career. I doubt he'll get too close at the end of the year, but I wonder if being one of the select few with both 300 wins and 3,000 strikeouts would entice him to stick around a few more seasons.

Well, Clemens resumes his "active leader" role today! Glavine still siting on 293 Inneresting trivia, Glavine would join Spahn, Seaver and Ryan as the only guys with games played as a Met. Pretty nifty foursome Which team has had the most 300 game winners suit up for them?

BTW, another interesting tidbit I dug out is that the 10 seasons as Brave teammates from 93-02 for Glavine and Maddux will break a record for most years as teammates for a pair of future or current 300 Game Winners (there have never been more than two future or current 300 Game Winners on the same team in a given year) the current record is 5: New York Giants Tim Keefe/Mickey Welch 1885-1889 and Next pair, clocking in at 4 years New York Mets Tom Seaver/Nolan Ryan 1968-1971 Another interesting tidbit is that in 1986 Tom Seaver missed out on being a teammate of 2 300 Game Winners in the same season. He was traded in June to the Red Sox, becoming a teammate of Roger Clemens, and in August of that year the White Sox picked up Steve Carlton! Carlton wound up making history a year later, joining Phil Niekro on the Indians, making it the first time a club would feature two current 300 Game Winners at the same time during the same season. Seaver, Niekro and John Clarkson share the title of being on the same team as another future or current 300 Game Winner in the same year, all three doing it three times: John Clarkson Charles Radbourne Braves 1888-1889 Kid Nichols Braves 1890-1892 Cy Young Spiders 1892-1894 Tom Seaver Nolan Ryan Mets 1968-1971 Steve Carlton White Sox 1986 Roger Clemens Red Sox 1988 Phil Niekro Warren Spahn Braves 1964 Gaylord Perry Braves 1980 Steve Carlton Indians 1987 Also another note about Keefe and Welch, the two also were teammates on the 1880-1882 Troy team of the NL. They are the only combo to be on more than one franchise.

BTW, inneresting thing, Warren Sphan's last year on the Braves was Phil Niekro's first and thanks to the 1987 Braves wanting to give Knuksie "One Last Go Round" the last day of the regular season, Phil Niekro ended up being a teammate of Tom Glavine in Glavine's debut season! BTW, in 1988 Score in their set had a card of Niekro from that game Which means one of the following Brave hurlers who made their MLB debuts in 2002 will one day win 300 games! =;) Kevin Gryboski Trey Hodges (although he has since been released by the Twins and twice by the Braves, and hasn't pitched in the bigs since 03) Jung Bong (hasn't pitched in the bigs since 04 with the Reds) John Foster (hasn't pitched in the bigs since 05) John Ennis (hasn't pitched in the bigs since 04 with the Tigers) Andy Pratt (hasn't pitched in the bigs since 04 with the Cubs) Joey Dawley (hasn't pitched in the bigs since 04 with the Indians) Seriously, what is with all those Baby Braves that haven't pitched since 2004? Heh, maybe Mazzone really is overrated as a developmental pitching coach as oppossed to a push-button one (ANYONE could be a PC to Smoltz, Glavine and Maddux.)

Speaking of Mathews, interesting thing about HOF pitchers is that for the most part, the only 19th century hurlers in the HOF are those with 300 or more wins Small exceptions of course for those whose careers started pretty late in the 19th Century like Rube Waddell (1897), Vic Willis (1898), Jack Chesbro, and Joe McGinnity, (both 1899) but the only 19th Century hurler to make it to the HOF and not win 300 is Amos Rusie who played from 1889 to 1901. He won 245 games in his career, but is probably best known for being traded from the Giants to the Reds for Christy Mathewson

Okay, time to start placing bets, which comes first, 300 Wins for Glavine, or 3,000 Ks for Pedro. Figure if Pedro's first start is in August, that would mean what, 6 more starts? The way things are going I'm starting to think Glavine is going to be at 298 when Pedro comes back!

Watch Glavine and Bonds flub it in 2007 season..Too funny but fitting in a year most pro athletes are being exposed for the cheating scumbags they are in most if not all sports....Baseball feels like its in a sinkhole....

If it's going to happen at home, Glavine needs to get wins in his next two starts (at LA, vs. PIT). After that, his next two starts will be on the road in Milwaukee and Chicago. Of course, he could also delay it a while more...but let's hope not.

Seaver had the DH thingie working on his side. Glavine might've at least come out for the bottom of the ninth last night if he hadn't had to bat in the top half.

I think it's great,with RJ talking about retiring it could be years before any pitcher gets a shot at win # 300.I wonder if Selig will go watch Glavine Tuesday.

Well, considering that Glavine's next shot will be in Bud's hometown it's certainly possible - and maybe even the next try since it'll only be 100 or so miles down the road ... but I don't think he's going to be following him around country or anything. * Hey, Ho, I'm Johnny O !
