Countdown to 3,000 Strikeouts: Pedro Martinez

Okay, so this is several months too early, but since I put up the Glavine countdown, might as well do the Pedro countdown, especially considering it's 2 away and he is the first guy on the outside looking in by virtue of amassing the 15th highest total of K's in baseball history, the top 14 are your 3,000 K Club Nolan Ryan 5,714 Roger Clemens 4,604 Randy Johnson 4,544 Steve Carlton 4,136 Bert Blyleven 3,701 Should he be in the Hall? Well besides the active hurlers, he's the only one of this club who isn't. Tom Seaver 3,640 Don Sutton 3,574 Or is that Conway Twitty? Gaylord Perry 3,534 Walter Johnson 3,508 For so long that was the standard, now it's good for 9th, and all within the last 25 years! Monday, GAB in Cincy. Lets get this sucker over with quickly huh Peety? Since last a post was made: Roger Clemens returned and looked like he and Randy Johnson would have what Carlton and Ryan had for a couple of years. A good old fashioned race of flip-flop during the year. But Johnson's injury has him stalled at 4,616. Currently Rocket has an appropriate total of 4,666 Greg Maddux now sits 11th all time with 3,258 and Curt Schilling is knocking on Bob Gibson's door at 3,101 John Smoltz is next in line for 3,000, currently at 2,933.

Back in 1999 when I thought the Mets might actually win the division or beat the Braves in the NLCS, I thought up this idea for an (obnoxious) sign to bring to the ballpark. IN 1864 THE YANKEES BURNT ATLANTA. THIS YEAR IT'S THE METS TURN. Never got to make/use that sign. I'm more mature now.

A colleague of mine tells this apocryphal tale: While driving from Maine to Florida for Spring Break, he was pulled over for speeding in Georgia. An ornery patrolman told him "nobody goes through our state that fast." "Sherman did" came his reply....that night he was the guest of the local sheriff.

I assume by "guest" you mean "detained in jail cell" and not invited over for roast beef and red wine.
