IGT 7/19, Maxi Pads vs. Metropolitans

KC
Jul 19 2005 07:30 PM

Oooooooo, David Wright in the five-slot!

KC
Jul 19 2005 07:45 PM

And Piazza in the six, just so when we look back on this years from now ...
this was the day.

We're halfway and don't have a hit. Anna's Banana gets out of first iunning trouble but a solo HR by Greene leads off the visiting 4th and we're down 1-0.

Is it too deep a hole?

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 19 2005 08:26 PM

The answer is NO!!!!

Yeah, Cliffy.

Bang, pow, off the scoreboard, baby.

FU and your no-hitter, Lawrence. Wright follows with a single.

Geez. Would it kill Beltran to drive in a run every now and then? We really coulda used that one.

Jul 19 2005 08:56 PM

Benson has been very good, despite throwing a lot of pitches early. Let's get him a W, fellas.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 08:57 PM

They let Lawrence bat in the top half of the seventh with a feller on base.

Let's get to him in the bottom half.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 09:00 PM

Floyd leads off with a single.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 09:03 PM

Piazza follows a popout by Wright with a single to center.

Lawrence is pult from the game.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 09:09 PM

And Linebrink, who throws twice as fast as Lawrence, induces a DP groundout by Mientkiewcz.

I don't know how slow Mient is, or how slowed he is from his injury, but that didn't look turn-able.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 19 2005 09:14 PM

Oh, geez, Roberts on to lead off. You know how this goes.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 09:17 PM

Get back home, Loretta!

seawolf17
Jul 19 2005 09:17 PM

Mikey threw him out!!!

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 19 2005 09:18 PM

Wow, I was wrong.

Now let's hope Mr. Koo can retire Giles.

seawolf17
Jul 19 2005 09:19 PM

I was in the middle of typing something like "leadoff walks score 650% of the time, especially with this running/throwing mismatch." Thanks for proving me wrong, Mikey.

Got it, busta.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 09:29 PM

Hernandez is my hero.

Just think of the Mets' season without him this year.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 09:36 PM

GI Otsuka in to face Cameron with two on and one out.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 09:40 PM

Cammie grounds into a force at second.

Beltran fulfills his destiny and ends the mini-rally.

Grrr.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 19 2005 09:40 PM

Dagnabbit.

Khalil Greene looks like a fruitcake and he's ruining my night.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 19 2005 09:42 PM

The TV dummies didn;t say a word but shouldn't Cairo have been at 2nd after that stupid play by the Pads' outfielders? Very different inning otherwise.

Willie Randolph - Don't put Looper in the game. He'll blow it!

ScarletKnight41
Jul 19 2005 09:45 PM

MK - Looper is our closer. We have to hope for the best!

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 09:46 PM

I wasn't sure. His fly wasn't really high.

I'm thinking maybe we should have reached a little deeper and bought Beltran a tent.

Jul 19 2005 09:46 PM

My transition into forum retirement gets easier by the minute.

Wright doubles, Piazza draws the fraidy cat IBB with one out in the ninth.

Offerman up.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 09:55 PM

Intentionally walking Piazza. Offerman is our Big Bat on the Bench.

Jul 19 2005 09:57 PM

Joel Cairo becomes the fall guy. And he was like a son to me.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 19 2005 09:57 PM

Dammit. This is a frustrating game.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 09:58 PM

Our first-and-second combo seems to cost us again.

KC
Jul 19 2005 10:06 PM

Nice top o' ninth by Looper.

Let's bring the wood, and give the Padres their first NL east loss this year.

They swept the Braves and Marlins (I think) and are 6-0 vs. NL east.

Frayed Knot
Jul 19 2005 10:08 PM

I knew as soon as Looper came in to the game that the Pads were going to score immediately.

Oops, I mean that the next time he actually allows runs to score I would have known it in advance.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 10:09 PM

Reyes reaches on a miscue to open.

Instead of swinging, can we try and score him Ty Cobb-style, on three steals?

Rockin' Doc
Jul 19 2005 10:10 PM

Time for Beltran to earn his keep. We need a gapper to score Jose.

Frayed Knot
Jul 19 2005 10:11 PM

I like Cliffy up here.
Lefty change-up artists don't usually dominate lefty hitters.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 10:11 PM

Beltran had a chance to end and inning and didn't.

Luck.

Changing.

MY KINGDOM FOR A FREAKIN SINGLE!!!!

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 10:13 PM

Grrr........

Rockin' Doc
Jul 19 2005 10:14 PM

Looks like you get to keep the keys to your kingdom, Knot.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 19 2005 10:14 PM

Dammmmmmit. Now we got the Pads' meat vs. Loopy in inning 2.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 10:16 PM

Mets get a break an inning and have shown a phobic unwillingness to capitalize.

Capitalize, men, capitalize!

Yeah, Cliffie!

KC
Jul 19 2005 10:19 PM

Floyd makes two plays in left he might not make in past years in the top
of the 11th. Third out is routine 3U.

The flow is about to turn on the maxi pads in the bottom of the 11th.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 10:19 PM

Looper gets six in a row, five of them lefties.

Will he come out for a third inning? Here's hoping Willie doesn't have to make that decision.

Frayed Knot
Jul 19 2005 10:21 PM

Looper's spot is up 3rd this inning so, no, he won't be coming out if needed in the 12th.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 10:24 PM

Who else has a Woodie!?

willpie
Jul 19 2005 10:25 PM

Woody! Woody! Woody!

Frayed Knot
Jul 19 2005 10:25 PM

WOW, I didn't think he got that one ... and it made it w/20 ft to spare.

Willie burns the bench and gets away with it.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 19 2005 10:27 PM

I have wood for Woody.

MiniKnight
Jul 19 2005 10:29 PM

The Mets Win! The Mets Win! The Mets Win! The Mets Win! The Mets Win! The Mets Win! The Mets Win! The Mets Win! The Mets Win! The Mets Win!

Jul 19 2005 10:36 PM

WOW, great win, gotta love the walk off home runs, best bench in MLB, Woodie said that was his first ever game winning home run, and he means ever.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 19 2005 10:37 PM

That's all Folks!

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 10:47 PM

Rockin' Doc burns the bench too. Looks past Chuck Jones and Friz Freiling and goes to Rob Clampett. Nice!

Well, this is one more for that MetsWalkoffs guy.

The walkoff game this reminds me of was a game around 1983 when Gardenhire hit one out in Montreal in about the 13th inning with about 20 feet to spare.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2005 11:07 PM

I found it, hiding out in 1982. It was a 10th-inning shot off of Bryn Smith, who did pretty well for a guy pitching with a missing vowel.

I also found this one while incorrectly looking in 1983, featuring a 17th inning walkoff by the doomed Dave Kingman (Hernandez would arrive a week later) after 8 2/3 scoreless by the Mets pen. Wow, I don't remember this one.
