These 'Dre unis aren't bad. When they dressed like they did last night, they might as well have forfeited. A team arrives to play dressed like that, they lose even when the win. Simple as that.

Two CAHNfidence boosters for David Wright.

Carlos Beltran hits home runs for everyone now.

Jose making havoc.

I don't know that I've ever seen a reversed balk call.

seawolf17
Jul 20 2005 07:51 PM

Especially when it really was a balk. What was that little hop move? Times like this I miss Bobby V going crazy, imitating Williams' balk, and stomping around the infield.

Edgy DC
Jul 20 2005 07:56 PM

It seems to me that it only takes one ump to spot a balk, and the fact that another ump didn't see it shouldn't undo that.

The good guys are going to win and all, but Willie should be playing under protest.

Glavine, get this, passes Dwight/Doc Gooden (who gave new life to the symbol above) on the all-time strikeout list.

I hat Glavine.

Edgy DC
Jul 20 2005 08:20 PM

Game is 4-2. We're going to need him before the year is over.

Before the night is over.

Before the inning is over.

Piazza doubled in the fourth Met run, his 20th double of the year.

Sounds like Derek Jeter talking about A-Rod.

At least I have reasons for talking like a girl.

Wouldn't it be hysterical if Bret caught that Piazza homer into the Pepsi Picnic Area?

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 20 2005 08:44 PM

I think Sal caught that one.

I ain't dead yet!

Piazza ties Johnny Bench for career home runs by a catcher (if not AS a catcher).

He'd probably throw it back and deny that it was hit. With some sort of fake statistical proof.

Glavine gets out of a tight jam in the sixth

Looks like Heilman is getting ready to come in.

Bring on Graves.

Welcome to the Big Leagues, Clay Hensley. Face the middle of the Mets' lineup.

Hey! Pedro Astacio is warming up! You know? I actually liked Astacio. I liked the way he did the arm dangly thing when he looked in for the sign.

Edgy DC
Jul 20 2005 09:22 PM

It was like his arm was dead and he was still going by sheer will.

Which wasn't far from the truth.

Nevin grounds into a double play, but the home plate ump says it came off Nevin's foot. Or something. So he called it foul. Which is crap. Come on, Willie! Argue or something! Get tossed! Get fired up!

And Heilman K's Nevin anyway.

A mixture of bad luck and getting behind guys leads to Heilman bringing the tying run to the plate, and Padilla comes in for his first real test.

Edgy DC
Jul 20 2005 09:36 PM

Sweeney hits it hard, but Cameron is in position and Padilla, wearing some geeky glasses, gets out of it.

Sounds like a nice game! Thanks for the recap, guys and gals!

Have I mentioned that I'm happy Padilla's up in the bigs yet? I'm baffled by Willie's willingness to use him in tight spots so early, though. It would seem to be counter to everything that Willie and his small balls stand for.

Not that I mind. I like Padilla. So far.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 20 2005 10:11 PM

Padilla seems to hurl a lot of junk, but he remains stylin in his Ambervision shades.

I don't think Randolph has been less than aggressive trying to find slots for his young pitchers.

He's had to be aggressive.

Did anyone see this? The ump gave the ball to Willie, apparently for the old shoe polish evidence, and then the cameras caught Willie back in the dugout, looking over the ball and then looking out into the field. The look on his face was hysterical.

I didn't know anybody still sihned their shoes. Kind of a moot point when they're putting pne tar all over their heads.

There was brief shot of the ball, and it did seem smudged.
