Brian Schneider behind the plate next year?
mlbaseballtalk Jul 19 2005 08:39 PM |
Here is a goofy one I heard recently. Apparantly he is friends with Omar, not sure of Schneider's contract, but it couldn't hurt if thats the best of who is out there on the market. Not a great year for backstops, so why not.

This is his 6th season, but several of the early ones look like they were partials so I doubt he'll be a FA this winter.

Schneider's still a good ways away from free agency, and his availability would depend on whether the Nats have another option.

Maybe we can kidnap him, put Kaz Ishii in a Padres "Hernandez" jersey, and switch them... maybe nobody will notice.

I heard an idea which seems logical.

I like it.

In fact, I'd make that deal right now. I'm still thinking there's no way Bert holds up over 162.

I'd do it if they'd do it. But what happens if they insist on Looper?

I don't see Looper as untouchable.

Where does Piazza place in the Schaefer standings so far?

Schaefer standings:

Looper below Ishii. Yikes.

I don't think Shoppach alone gets you Looper . . . I really doubt that any other team would be willing to give up their closer for him, so why should we?
|
Yancy Street Gang Jul 21 2005 09:41 AM |
Maybe Ishii would be more desirable than Looper. After all, he does have more Schaefer points.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. If Piazza can be signed cheaply, he should be brought back and stuck behind the plate for next year. He'll hit average for a catcher, and we can put him at seventh in the lineup.

Can someone e-mail a link to those rankings to Theo Epstein? You know he's a numbers guy, and boy, numbers don't get more definite than Schaefer points! Come on, Theo! Kaz is a winner!

From another thread: 'Ramon Hernandez hasn't looked good'
|

Hernandez got off to a good start, then injuries caught up with him. That's a dangerous trend to start if your position is catcher. He still has things to recommend him, but I'd proceed with caution.
