I got thrown out of my family today

I was doing a nice thing, driving my mother's 86-year-old best friend (my mom's been dead for over thirty-five years) to South Jersey where she could spend the afternoon with my 94-year-old aunt at my cousins' house--we were all looking over photo albums (I brought my laptop so I could show pictures of my kids to everyone) when my cousin spotted Jenny wearing a Red Sox cap.

"What's this?" my cousin, a lifelong Mets fan who took me to some games in the early 1960s. "How come your daughter wears a Sox cap?"

"Because I bought it for her," I explained. "Last month."

"You-[u:b8631ef562]bought[/u:b8631ef562]-it -for-her?"

"I bought one for myself, too."

"You bought a Sox cap? Don't tell me--"

"Yep, I've gone over."

"I am very disappointed in you. Very, very disappointed."

"Forty two years, Barry," I explained. "And I just couldnt take it anymore."

""B-b-b-but they're doing so well now," Barry said, his eyes as big as baseballs.

"The last few days, sure," I said, "but they just keep doing stupid thing after stupid thing, and I couldn't take it."

"B-b-b-but--I don't think you can be a member of this family anymore."

"I've gotten thrown out of worse," I said. "See, there's this website that I helped to start..."

I don't know why everyone else is complaining about your avatar. I think it's perfect.

Bret,
When I supported your right to post your opinion, I never thought it would come to this.
At least your Piazza comments in multiple threads were posted in the spirit of long term benefits to the Mets. And in that regard, any opinion about what might be done to improve the team I love was welcome, whether I agreed with it or not.

But now this?
A Red Sox cap?
Two of them?

I have my limits.

Traitor.
