Holy crap, LoDuca just took Smoltz deep.

LoDuca goes yard ... the scoring continuuuuues.

Rockin' Doc

I am really getting spoiled this spring. This is already the fourth game I have been able to watch on TV this season.

OlerudOwned
Apr 07 2007 02:09 PM

Jeez.

Nymr83
Apr 07 2007 02:09 PM

E-3 Delgado closed his glove too soon on a throw from Valentin

Rockin' Doc
Apr 07 2007 02:09 PM

I volunteer to check Delgado's eyes at his earliest conveniance.

OlerudOwned
Apr 07 2007 02:11 PM

Come on Tommy, you're a hockey guy. You can handle the cold.

Rockin' Doc
Apr 07 2007 02:11 PM

a nice groundball for a DP will get Delgado off the hook.

Nymr83
Apr 07 2007 02:21 PM

1 unearned run for the braves. I feel good about that inning, in the past the braves would have knocked in 3 or 4.

Rockin' Doc
Apr 07 2007 02:22 PM

Delgado's error proves costly as the Braves score an unearned run without getting the ball out of the infield.

Tied at one heading to the top of the second.

OlerudOwned
Apr 07 2007 02:34 PM

Wind blowing out to left?

Diaz makes is 2-1.

Zvon
Apr 07 2007 02:35 PM

Mike Diaz?
ugh.

I was starting to forget what its like to be behind in a game.
Ugh.

Now I remember how I never really enjoyed that.

iramets
Apr 07 2007 02:36 PM

McC: First time this season the Mets have been behind, the second inning of game 5

Nymr83
Apr 07 2007 02:37 PM

E4 as the ball goes off Valentin's glove, the Mets are getting sloppy

iramets
Apr 07 2007 02:38 PM

No error. Base hit.

Zvon
Apr 07 2007 02:44 PM

Well, that could have been worse.
Mets down 2-1 after two.

Glavine has thrown 51 pitches already.

Zvon
Apr 07 2007 02:46 PM

Valentin whips a 2 strike line single to right.
He put a nice swing on that.

Glavine follows with the sac.
Val on 2nd, 1 out.
Reyes

Zvon
Apr 07 2007 02:49 PM

Nice play by Smoltz robs Reyes.
Val keeps em busy on the basepaths and now its 2 out, Reyes on 2nd.

translation:
Reyes reached on fielderĀ“s choice to pitcher, Valentin out at third, Reyes to second.

Good inning for Glavine, hopefully he stays in the groove.

Cold weather on a day game following a night game: it would've been a good game to get bench player or two in.

OlerudOwned
Apr 07 2007 03:10 PM

Glavine's no El Duque up there.

..like last night Reyes last at bat was totally unnecessary.
He should have been given the rest of the night off in the 8th.

Nice hitting by Alou and Green.
And how about that---Larry decides to finally catch a pop up.
Good timing. sarcasm meter> [ /]

Shouldn't Wilson get punished for not making any trace of effort to get out of the way of that pitch, instead of having Buck and McCarver kiss his ass?

Nymr83
Apr 07 2007 03:28 PM

beltran singles to tie it

Ha.

Mets manufacture their 2nd run and the game is tied, 2-2.

First and third, one out, wright and and Alou up= 0 runs

Zvon
Apr 07 2007 03:35 PM

Ill be happy just to see a good at bat from Wright,..or in that case a constructive out.

Smoltz did put some excellent pitches on him tho.
He set him up good.

Zvon
Apr 07 2007 03:40 PM

I may have to retract everything Ive ever said or thought in regards to Moises being a Met.

Nice catch there.

Kid Carsey
Apr 07 2007 03:42 PM

Alou has looked pretty good in LF early on for all the carrying on that he'd
be all O and no D.

Apr 07 2007 04:07 PM

Feliciano pitches to Woodward...

Nymr83
Apr 07 2007 04:08 PM

now green makes a nice catch on the run, 4-2 on the sacfly

OlerudOwned
Apr 07 2007 04:08 PM

No faith in Joe to get the grounder against Woodward?

Feliciano gets the out, but it's a run scoring flyout.

Nymr83
Apr 07 2007 04:11 PM

loaded again on a walk to johnson, Renteria will bat

willie goes to the mound, joe smith coming on?

Lets see this new Braves pen......

OlerudOwned
Apr 07 2007 04:23 PM

Delgado rips a base hit off of Mike Gonzalez. That's big. Show we can hit this pen.

Frayed Knot
Apr 07 2007 04:23 PM

Now we're going to see the "good" Brave pen.
The way they've got things set-up now is kinda like the Yanx did for years where they had their good guys and their 'well, we're behind by a lot so let's save the real ones' troop.
Last night we saw the latter, now we'll see the former: Gonzalez, Soriano, Wickman

Nymr83
Apr 07 2007 04:28 PM

Green is 3 for 4 as he singles home Delgado, still want a new RFer mr. pessimist?

OlerudOwned
Apr 07 2007 04:29 PM

It's the lefties who're hitting Gonzalez, go figure.

Nymr83
Apr 07 2007 04:30 PM

Valentin pops out to Johnson who almost collided with Francoeur, 5-3 middle of the 7th.

These throws keep hitting Delgado in a bad spot ... his glove.

Frayed Knot
Apr 07 2007 04:56 PM

OK, here we go.
I like our chances here: Beltran, Delgado, wright & Alou against Wickman

iramets
Apr 07 2007 04:57 PM

Hey, don't be so pessimistic--Nymr's on patrol for that bad shit today!!

Can the Mets avoid their first first loss of the year? Can Wright avoid a golden sombrero? Stay tuned....

Frayed Knot
Apr 07 2007 05:06 PM

Even just tying this up now puts us in a better position in an extra inning bullpen battle

Zvon

Frayed Knot
Apr 07 2007 05:11 PM

metsmarathon
Apr 07 2007 05:11 PM

well, we can still go 161-1...

Zvon
Apr 07 2007 05:12 PM

Wright steals second--a single will tie it.
Comeon Greenie...

UGHHHHH!

He rips a liner but its hauled in by Braves 1st baseman Wilson.
Nice catch too.

Well, it not like we were gonna win em all.

Have a happy and safe Easter everyone!

Sloppy defense cost the Mets dearly in today's game. The team had been error free in the first four games of the year, but today they dropped the ball, figuratively and literally. In a game in which Smoltz is on the mound for Atlanta and runs are expected to be tough to come by, today's miscues were particularly damaging.

OlerudOwned

A few minutes 'til first pitch. Someone else make the thread, I might be bad luck...

I only caught bits of this one but Wright whiffing with 1 out and a guy on third in the 4th(?) inning was a pitiable, game-blowable failure too.
