Phils @ Mets IGT 4/11/07

Johnny Dickshot
Apr 11 2007 12:37 PM

I figure to be on a roll since starting the home opener thread.

Adam Eaton is 3-0 in 3 career appearances against the Mets, all while pitching for the Padres, last in 2004. One of the games was the 16-1 blowout that featured Derek Bell pitching in sunglasses for the Mets.

Eaton was once a Phillies first-round draftee then was traded to SD for Andy Ashby in a very stupid deal for the Phillies: Ashby lasted only half a season in Philly while Eaton, maybe not a great pitcher, turned into a very passable end-of-the-rotation guy. He was once teammates with tonight's counterpart, Oliver Perez.

A win tonight and tomorrow, with the Nationals coming in to town over the weekend, and this season could be off to an outstanding start.

I hope Oliver and the boys can keep the ball rolling.

I'm predicting Delgado's first homer tonight.

Rain should hold off until well after the game is over.

The second game of the year traditionally has the lowest paid attendance all year but judging by what tickets were available, I may not be able to pull off the self-upgrade I was planning on for tonight.

Some cracking info there JD,Bell had a decent off-speed pitch IIRC.

Bases loaded.

Five Perezian walks.

Oh boy.

Zvon
Apr 11 2007 06:00 PM

Perez walks in the 1st run of the game.

Ugh.

Zvon
Apr 11 2007 06:02 PM

....this is disgusting.

Hey! A strike--wooohooo.

*Z does a lil dance.

Apr 11 2007 06:03 PM

THROW A FUCKING STRIKE.

Zvon
Apr 11 2007 06:03 PM

And Willie will hang Perez out to dry, as is his wont.

Come on--get him outta there.

seawolf17
Apr 11 2007 06:05 PM

SUNUVABITCH.

THROW A FUCKING STRIKE.

Zvon
Apr 11 2007 06:06 PM

Yea,...why not hit him.
At least thats more exciting.

They say Willie doesnt show his emotions but thats not the 1st time Ive seen his lips pursed in disgust.

Johnny Dickshot
Apr 11 2007 06:06 PM

Pathetic.

Kid Carsey
Apr 11 2007 06:06 PM

Jeez, he looks like he wanted to (or was) crying as Willie was coming out
to get him after hitting someone to boot.

We'll get 'em again in five days, brother.

Edgy DC
Apr 11 2007 06:06 PM

Crash.

Burn.

seawolf17
Apr 11 2007 06:07 PM

Welcome back, Zvon. Long time no see.

You could see he was overthrowing; he wasn't going to throw strikes any more.

Not that I'm excited about Aaron Sele either.

Any confidence gained by the nice performance in ATL is probably dashed for Perez now.

Golly, Ollie, that was awful.

I knew it was overly optimistic to say that Perez had "figured it out."

Hopefully there won't be too many outings like this one, but there very well might be.

Get well soon, Pedro.

seawolf17
Apr 11 2007 06:12 PM

That's the problem with Perez. When he's good, he's unhittable; but when he's awful, he's AWFUL.

It's only three runs... could have been a lot worse. He could have thrown a strike and had someone belt one into the gap.

And maybe it wouldn'ta hurt so much had we not boned ourselves up the pooper in he first inning.

We've done our part.
Time for the team to do theirs.

Zvon
Apr 11 2007 06:34 PM

HAha--he hits David. Bases juiced.

Now our turn to do the cha-cha around the bases.

Awwww,.Alou smacks into a double play.
K, we got one back.

Zvon
Apr 11 2007 06:50 PM

Ugh---Reyes lines one down the left field line,...JUST foul.
Oh man-if that was fair : triple city.

YEA!
and Reyes goes right up the middle with a seeing eye grounder and plates Val.

Only 1 run down now :)

Apr 11 2007 07:02 PM

Damn, reading through this thread has almost made me glad that I can't see this game. One thing you can say about Perez is that he's been virtually unhittable this season. I just hope this implosion doesn't completely wreck the kids psyche.

Good to read that the team is fighting back.

Johnny Dickshot
Apr 11 2007 07:03 PM

Sele's done a fine job to keep us in it. I thought Rollins was awfully close to getting himself thrown out at third.

Johnny Dickshot
Apr 11 2007 07:08 PM

That was a pretty pathetic showing by the heart of the order.

Kid Carsey
Apr 11 2007 07:09 PM

A perfectly handled shot at third would have nailed Rollins. Tough bang
bang catch that gets caught more than not, I think.

(I'll have to see the replay again)

Mike Torrez yielded ten for the Mets in one game. I believe that was a record-tying effort at the time.

I demand a Steve J. Rogers Rally!

]She can kill with a smile
She can wound with her eyes
She can ruin your faith with her casual lies
And she only reveals what she wants you to see
She hides like a child
But she's always a woman to me

She can lead you to live
She can take you or leave you
She can ask for the truth
But she'll never believe you
And she'll take what you give her as long as it's free
She steals like a thief
But she's always a woman to me

Oh, she takes care of herself
She can wait if she wants
She's ahead of her time
Oh, and she never gives out
And she never gives in
She just changes her mind

She will promise you more
Than the Garden of Eden
Then she'll carelessly cut you
And laugh while you're bleedin'
But she'll bring out the best
And the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself
Cause she's always a woman to me

She is frequently kind
And she's suddenly cruel
She can do as she pleases
She's nobody's fool
But she can't be convicted
She's earned her degree
And the most she will do
Is throw shadows at you
But she's always a woman to me

This rally sucked, Steve J. Rogers style.

I'd sure like a more threatening pinch hitter than David Newhan.

Can we talk about how old Koos seemed?

Kid Carsey
Apr 11 2007 07:41 PM

Didn't come off that old to me, good little interview from the crowded booth.
Gary is calm as a cuke talking to Jerry who isn't facing camera and Keith is
all fidgety on the left side of the screen and Ron in the back.

They should set things up differently for when Mets' deity is present.

That was sort of the idea.

I expect to see some some inspirational rocknroll in the 8th.

Last night a little dancer came dancin' to my door
Last night a little angel Came pumpin cross my floor
She said "Come on baby I got a licence for love
And if it expires pray help from above"

In the midnight hour she cried- "more, more, more"
With a rebel yell she cried- "more, more, more"
In the midnight hour babe- "more, more, more"
With a rebel yell- "more, more, more"

She don't like slavery, she won't sit and beg
But when I'm tired and lonely she sees me to bed
What set you free and brought you to be me babe
What set you free I need you hear by me
Because

In the midnight hour she cried- "more, more, more"
With a rebel yell she cried- "more, more, more"
In the midnight hour babe- "more, more, more"
With a rebel yell- "more, more, more"

He lives in his own heaven
Collects it to go from the seven eleven
Well he's out all night to collect a fare
Just so long, just so long it don't mess up his hair.

I walked the world with you, babe
A thousand miles with you
I dried your tears of pain, babe
A million times for you

I'd sell my soul for you babe
For money to burn with you
I'd give you all, and have none, babe
Just, just, justa, justa to have you here by me
Because

In the midnight hour she cried- "more, more, more"
With a rebel yell she cried- "more, more, more"
In the midnight hour babe- "more, more, more"
With a rebel yell she cried "more, more, more"

Oh yeah little baby
she want more

Oh yeah little baby
she want more

All we need is a bad call from the 2nd base ump to be 4-4 tonight.

Not that it's costing us the game by any stretch, but the umps certainly aren't having any better of a game than the Mets are.

Billy Idol fails too.

No more BILLY ***L songs. Only one Billy will do...

Life isn't easy from the singular side
Down in the hole some emotions are hard to hide

It's your decision; it's a chance that you take
It's on your head; it's a habit that's hard to break

Do you need a friend would you tell no lies?!
Would you take me in?!

Are you lonely in the dark!?

You never listen to the voices inside
They fill your ears as you run to a place to hide
You're never sure if the illusion is real
You pinch yourself but the mem'ries are all you feel

Can you break away from your alibis?!
Can you make a play?!

Will you meet me in the dark?!

Don'tcha need me?
Hey, hey!
Don'tcha need me?
Oh yea!
Don'tcha leave me?
Hey, hey!
Don'tcha need me?
Oh yea!

You take no int'rest no opinion's too dear
You make the rounds and you try to be so sincere

You guard your hopes and you pocket your dreams
You'd trade it all to avoid an unpleasant scene

Can you face the fire when you see me there?!
Can you feel the fire?!

Will you love me in the dark?!

Sucked. Cold.

Art Garfunkel sang the national anthem.

I think Moises Alou would lose in a footrace to both LoDuca and Castro. With Alou getting a 2 step headstart. Slow running, slow in the outfield, shitty at the plate. I'd like to see Milledge get the token start in left tomorrow before he goes down. I know not everybody is Jose Reyes, but some sort of tangible sign from Moises that he cares about winning and losing would be nice.

Not scoring Reyes in the first and Alou's DP killed us.

Felt sorry for Oliver. Crowd tried to keep him in it as best they could but it was just too much. Willie got him out as soon as possible, they were clearing just waiting for Sele to be ready.

Johnny Dickshot
Apr 11 2007 10:04 PM

Alou did smash the living shit out of his DP ball. I also became more aware tonight of his casual lope after balls in the corner though.

Gwreck
Apr 11 2007 10:14 PM

I wondered too about Beltran. I got the feeling that he didn't think Rollins would go for 3 and might have gone after it harder otherwise.

Edgy DC
Apr 12 2007 05:40 AM

I think Alou has been clubbing the ball hard most of the season so far, and getting around on pitchers a guy his age has no business pulling.
