Ditto and Amen. "TCB" just grates on my nerves. I'll take Motown over that any day.

I noticed that an ELO song was played for one of Wright's ABs but now I don't remember which on song it was.

Gwreck
Apr 11 2007 02:40 PM

Are you sure it was ELO? Sources seem to indicate that these are David's 4 songs:

David Bowie - Fame
Cassie - Me and You
Big Pun - I'm Not a Player
Julez Santana - The Second Coming

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 11 2007 02:46 PM

That "Fame" isn't the one from the movie, is it?

"I wanna live forever..."

I pretty much NEVER notice any player's entrance music, but last year there was one significant exception: Carlos Beltran's El Esta Aqui. (I thought it was "Vanis Takee.")

Beltran was so hot at one point last year that whenever there were runners on base and I'd hear "Vanis Takee" I'd feel a surge of anticipation.

I would have known his at bat was next anyway, of course, but somehow that song became associated in my mind with big base hits.

I hope that happens again this year.

I came up with an idea a while back that the Mets (or any imaginative team) should have an in-stadium band that plays music much the way the organist was common in the past. It would be a way to get a contemporary sound into the ballpark without just spinning the the same old records played everywhere and it would be a unique promotion.

Joe Smith definetly has a song used each time he comes out. I just can't figure out what it is. If you can help...please do!

The only bigger mystery is the default "you-don't-have-a-song-so-we-use-this" song they use. It's been used for Gomez and Gotay both. I'd love to know what it is. It sounds suspiciously like 80s hair metal/arena rock. I don't know what it'll be but there's definetly a prize if you can help me figure out what it is.

Damion Easley was rocking "Too Legit to Quit" by Hammer before one of his at-bats Friday night. Time will tell if this is a permanent thing or not.

Reyes is one of 3 players to use the song "Chacarron." The song is hilarious, huge hat tip to GYC for showing it to me.

Gwreck
May 30 2007 11:24 PM

Thanks OO for the help!

Chacarron is Reyes' 4th song, with This Is Why I'm Hot the s2nd song, and Walk It Out the 3rd. I think the first one is one of the reggateton beats created by Reyes himself (?).

Perez is either changing up his music or perhaps letting the stadium change it up for him. Not sure, but it wasn't the Jacksons used on Tuesday.

Carlos Gomez has music now too...still trying to ID that.

I think all the relievers except Sele have music now too. Not 100% sure about Feliciano.

The goal of getting everybody this year is getting a little closer.

LOL, you're dating yourself. As GWreck noted, the song is Mo Money, Mo Problems by Biggie Smalls. It uses the beat from I'm Coming Out.

Lots of rap/hip-hop these days uses beats from old songs. They call it sampling. Even though some of the songs come out good, I call it a lack of skill. Steal a beat and mumble some gibberish loosely in time with it and you've got a hit. (And I like Mo Money, Mo Problems, as well as some others)

What was that line way back in season 2 (1?) that Christopher said when Hesh and the rapper got in a spat?

bmfc1
Jun 06 2007 06:37 AM

Elster88--HA! Thanks for the update. I'm not familiar with "Mo Money, Mo Problems" (although I am familiar with Willy Mo Pena and, sadly, Mo Vaughn). I know what "beats" are and what sampling is but to me, these "artists" should come up with their own music.

Since the 2008 regular season has not yet begun, I have placed this Mets music related note, from today's [u:7be9e3fd1f]Newsday[/u:7be9e3fd1f], in the thread from 2007:

Perhaps Smith someday can be like Heilman, who was approached by a Mets PR official who asked him which song he'd like played when he enters games at Shea this season. Heilman, who changed from The Clash's "London Calling" to "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes last season, didn't have an answer. "I'll have to think about that," he said. But he won't have to think about his role.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
