And many more happy ones.
One day we'll all know for sure how to pronounce that name with confidence.

You should have posted the weird "S" one, coob.

Happy Birthday, iubitul. (If you ever come back.)

And if you don't, have a bad birthday.

Har! I kid you. I'm a kidder. Have a nice McDay.

What is an iubitul anyway? I am holding back all birthday wishes until we get an explanation.

I Googled it once and didn't get an answer. All results were either Spanish or were references to our guy.

Edgy DC

I think it's a piece of photography equipment.

I thought the answers I stumbled upon were in Italian.

Yancy Street Gang
Apr 06 2007 11:11 AM

Maybe. (It was a while ago.)

I think a Spanish word, though, is more likely to end in an L than an Italian word.

It's the second planet in the Tesytleup solar system.

Yancy Street Gang

The Tesytleup solar system?

Some science fiction thing, I assume?

seawolf17
Apr 06 2007 11:51 AM

I thought it was Latin.

Kid Carsey

Nah, I made it up.

Yancy Street Gang

I just Googled it again, and noticed that most of the hits come from a variety of domains with the extenson of .ro, which is the national domain extension for web sites registered in Romania. (The one about Cheeky Gals looked intruiging, but I didn't click on it.)

Any Romanians in the audience? Who can translate iubitul for us?

I just spoike with co-worker I. --- a Romanian and a sweetie and the designated office headturner until hellspawn Yankee-fan S. started wearing elastic to work. I slapped down a piece of paper with "Iubitul" in front of her and asked her what it means and she began to blush.

"Loverboy."

Yancy Street Gang

Nice job! And a solution to a long-standing mystery.

I guess those Cheeky Romanian gals love their loverboys.

Edgy DC
Apr 06 2007 12:35 PM

Technically, it means "lover," but with a male suffix.

I. just walked past my office. I'm all but certain she's heading to HR to make a formal harrassment complaint against me.

Yancy Street Gang
Apr 06 2007 12:36 PM

And now we know how to get him to come back.

We simply say, "Oh loverboy..."

And if he doesn't answer?

"COME HERE, LOVERBOY!"

And if he still doesn't answer?

Now that we know what it means loverboy might be too embarrassed to come back here.

I'm a-tempted, but it would seem to be crossing a line.

I could tell you her back-story, but your head would explode.

Needless to say, but she has one of those names so sleeky exotic that if you google it, you get surrounded by pictures of adorables and want to move to Romania.

I'm dying here.

My guess is that the blush would indicate that the translation is a bit more ribald than simply "loverboy."

Anyway, here are the lyrics about "lover boy" from "Love is Strange":

Mickey and Sylvia wrote:

[MICKEY:]
Sylvia...

[SYLVIA:]
Yes Mickey?

[MICKEY:]
How do you call your loverboy?

[SYLVIA:]
Come 'ere loverboy!!

[MICKEY:]
And if he doesnt answer?

[SYLVIA:]
Ohh loverboy!

[MICKEY:]
And if he STILL doesnt answer?

[SYLVIA:]
I simply say
Baby,
Oohh baby
My sweet baby
You're the one

[TOGETHER:]
Baby,
Oohh baby
My sweet baby
You're the one

In the midst of all this Iubitol talk, this pops out at me. What exactly does this mean? I am laughing at the possibilities

Edgy DC

hellspawn

The devil sent her here to deliver me body and soul.

Yankee-fan

A popular past-time of the diabolical.

S.

The initial of my co-worker.

started wearing elastic

Her clothes show off her shape.

to work

Her clothes are way tight for office attire.

You should think of her as heaven-sent. As a challenging exercise for your willpower.

I'm picturing her with elastic tape (the stuff in waistbands) wrapped around her in strategic places, and nothing else. And giggling.

I need to grow up.
