IGT 4/24 - Rockies @ Mets

I never knew El Duque likes U2 so much.

A Boy Named Seo
Apr 24 2007 05:15 PM

What's the point of the vest if the undershirt is the same color as the jersey?

Stoopid.

Them:
Finley CF
Carrol 2B
Atkins 3B
Helton 1B
Holliday LF
Hawpe RF
Torrealba C
Tulowitski SS
Cook P

=orange]Us:
Same dudes
El Duque P

Does David Newhan even own a glove?

A Boy Named Seo
Apr 24 2007 05:20 PM

Jaime Carrol: "Hey, look what I found in my glove!"

Willets Point

Reyes would have beat that one out (LoDuca's grounder that is).

Rockies' batting helmets have the same type of two-tone effect that the Mets started. Did they have it last season, too?

Willets Point
Apr 24 2007 05:31 PM

Is it just me, or are the Mets turning a lot of DP's this season?

Willets Point
Apr 24 2007 05:35 PM

Ah, a nice slump buster by David Wright. The second 75 begins.

A Boy Named Seo
Apr 24 2007 05:45 PM

I can't tell Aaron Cook apart from John Thomson.

Possibly. The Rockies have been in the vanguard of ugly uniform design throughout the franchise's history.

Willets Point
Apr 24 2007 05:54 PM

Dukey was worrying me there. I hope he's got that out of his system. It's the freakin' Rockies after all.

OlerudOwned
Apr 24 2007 05:57 PM

Finley not catching that one. I love leadoff triples by Jose. Doesn't matter which one.

Willets Point
Apr 24 2007 05:58 PM

Watching Finley go flat against the wall brings back memories of Todd Pratt's walk-off. Valentin on third with a stand-up triple.

OlerudOwned
Apr 24 2007 06:01 PM

Correction.

I like leadoff triples when we get the run home.

No matter how many times I see that play, it always looks to me that Finley had caught that ball.

WIth a little work, this could be the first line of an Old English epic about the struggles of a Met warrior.

I think the Rocks have had some handsome combinations, but they never knew when to leave well enough alone.

2-out double for Duque, but Reyes wipes the egg off of Cook's face by bouncing out to second.

OlerudOwned
Apr 24 2007 06:41 PM

The way that ball spun out of Duque's hand and coming off the bat, it looked like Wiffle.

I'd seriously rather see Chavez or Newhan here.

Gimmie some crow, Julio.

Great hustle by Shawn.

Now a pinch hitter, and let's get the win for El Duque.

Wagneurysm [wag-nyuh-riz-uhm]

a permanent cardiac or arterial dilatation usually caused by weakening of the vessel wall caused by Billy Wagner entering a close game and beginning to walk people

But of course, by the time I'm done typing this up with formatting, he's out of the inning.

Now Beltran is batting with Lo Duca the winning run on first.

Oops, make that Endy at first. Lo Duca leaves for the pinch runner.

A walk for Wright. Getting on base won't count for much in this situation but it keeps the inning alive.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 24 2007 08:17 PM

Wright walks.

Hopefully Moises ends it here, but if he gets out, I wonder if he gets double-switched out of the game since Endy is currently in the lineup.

Rockin' Doc
Apr 24 2007 08:18 PM

Wright really battled Affeldt to earn that walk. Of course, a hit would have been nicer.

At least now the Mets get a hot hitter to the plate. Come on Moises, I have faith in you.

Edgy DC
Apr 24 2007 08:19 PM

He might. On the other hand, Scott Schoeneweis may easily have another inning or so in him.

Make it a moot point, Moises.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 24 2007 08:23 PM

Schoeneweis is still in the game, but the double-switch did happen.

Endy's in left, Castro hitting in Alou's slot.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 24 2007 08:25 PM

Now Schoeneweis is out-the-game.

He gets the first out and here comes Joe Smith.

Smith will be due to bat third in the bottom of the inning.

Who's left in the pen? Burgos. Sele. Anyone else?

Frayed Knot
Apr 24 2007 08:25 PM

Plenty of pen left: Smith, Sele & Burgos -- but just Newhan on the bench unless I'm missing someone.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 24 2007 08:33 PM

I didn't.

Spier forgets to let go of the ball on the pitch. Green balked to third with one out.

Rockin' Doc
Apr 24 2007 08:36 PM

I don't like the sac bunt there. You now have to take Smith out and burn your last bat on the bench.

Hopefully, Newhan will serve me a big steaming platter of crow.

Rockin' Doc

Great game. Bad crowd.

The pitch speed board didn't seem to be working but I wonder exactly how slow that El Duque pitch to Helton (hit for a comebacker to end an inning) was. Couldn't have been more than 55.

Misc.
Willets, the U2 isn't for El Duque, it's the song they use when everybody takes the field (last year it was Start Me Up, by the Stones.

Gary and Ron commented that Hernandez timed his exit from the dugout to be in synch with the line "Hello, hello..." in ths song. May just be coincidence but that is what I was commenting on.

It was 52! The left field side pitch speed scoreboard was down but right field showed it.

With nothing to compare it to, I'd say the crowd was OK. It was the 7th-inning stretch before you knew it. I have to give props to Green who didn't look great tonight but hustled his ass off.

I had no faith in Easley at all. None. It was 0-2 at one point! I was thinking, Don't forget your bag on your way out.

Big asshole on the 7 train on the way home shouted at young Yankee fans the whole time FIRST PLACE! LAST PLACE! Considered pushing him onto the platform for acting like a Yankee fan but he got off at 74th to terrorize passengers on the E or LIRR.
