The Magic 5 continue to start but Alou sits in lieu of last night's hero, Chavez.

There is a day off tomorrow. Willie must figure that his regulars will be getting one day of rest anyway and that he'd rather they didn't have two.

I'm cool with that.

While I would like to see Wright take a seat he did have a few decent at bats last night, here's hoping.

We're under way as the Rox hang one on Pelfrey in the first and the Mets respond with quiet.

Ianetta leads off the second with a single.

6-0 Rox.

Wow. Looks like Pelfrey needs some quality time down in N'awlinz to me.

I'm following online, but I'm assuming he's just throwing fastball after fastball. That about right?

We're being pelfed.

I think we're still going to see another start or two. He may well get skipped anyhow.

Well, winning may a tough haul, but let's not no-hit by Phinneus here.

Cool reference. Get that little medallion thingie and let's do the third inning again.

Question: How did those two help Babe Ruth?

I would've thought Sele would be the next to audition for the opening.

I mean, I would've thought that an inning ago.

I'm glad I didn't decide to TiVo this game to watch when I got home tonight.

Yeesh.

I think Heilman and Darren Oliver spoiled me, I expected the long reliever to come in and shut things down for 3 innings while we crept back into the game.

Ducks on the pond, David. Now would be a nice time for your first dinger.

Who was it who said that you're going to lose one third of your games and that you're going to win one third of your games, and it's what you do in the remaining one third that determines what kind of a season you have.

I'm content to file this game among that first group and move on.

(The 1986 Mets, amazingly, swept all 54 of the games that are in that final category!)

Somehow, the 1962 Mets even lost 14 of the gimmes.

They lost 12. Two were rained out.

My theory is that if you're not going to hit, and you're not going to pitch, and you're not going to field ... ya might as well not do them all on the same day.
Today sounds like one of those days even though I don't think there have been any errors (although two bunt hits can't be good).

On the other hand, Green up w/sacks full so the comeback starts now baybee!!

Not only do games like this suck, but we gotta wait 50-some hours until the next one.

Beltran robbed by umpire at bitter end. So much for the historic comeback.

Pretty quick, actually, for a game with 32 freakin hits.

I'm really glad I missed this mess. Pelfrey should be near the end of his rope and would probably benefit from some time in New Orleans to hopefully get his act together and gain some confidence with a few successful outings. He is obviously lacking something right now. I don't know whether it is the lack of a reliable out pitch, a good second pitch to go with his fastball, adequate control, or maybe some confidence, but something definitely seems to be missing right now. If it were up to me, which it is obviously not, I would likely give him one more start, but if the results were more of the same, then I would send him down for some hopeful retooling in New Orleans.
