Can you hear the drums, Fernando?

Drumming you out of the game. This was discussed on the broadcast tonight.

Fernando Martinez, the Mets' 18-year-old marvel, was pulled from Sunday's Double-A Binghamton game because he was "not running as hard to first base," according to Mets VP of Player Development Tony Bernazard.

"It's a policy of the organization no matter who it is," said Bernazard, who said he spoke with the outfielder on Sunday.

Not running as hard as whom or what? As hard as he used to run? As hard as Timo Perez in the World Series of 2000? I hope he was running as hard as Tony Bernarzard can run today.

I like an organizational policy of pulling and setting down players that dog it or fail to hustle.

I don't see it as a major long-term issue, but you have to discipline players in the organization who don't hustle, whether they're top prospects or they'll never get past Brooklyn. I don't have any problem with it, although I don't see why it's a story either.
