Did you remember to take your long distance excise tax credit?

Yeah, I'm not complaining about how much I pay. I'm complaining about how much I owe at the end of the year by not deducting enough from my paychecks.

No the long distance excise tax credit didn't seem to apply to me. I trusted the missus on that. Guess I was wrong.

Getting a refund of $597.

Owed $95 to the state of Pennsylvania, though.

Joining a political party ain't gonna help anyone's situation, ny.

Resolved, I'm not doing anyone's taxes next year unless they want to
help me pay for mine - get a freakin' accountant you don't drink beer with
next year. I Turbo'd ours today, taxes suck big hairy moose c***, but I ex-
pected this to be a bad year due to a few things.

I'm a value added afficianado. Get people at the point of purchase.

It'll never happen. The Tax-preparers and lawyers are too big a lobby to switch over to what would be a much easier to administrate and less easy to cheat consumption tax.

Well, I don't know about the tax-preparers lobby, but there are deeply entrenched interests. I never say never. Tax reform is happening sooner or later. Probably nothing so dramatic, though.

The PA tax form is the pits. The instruction book must have been written in 1920 by a bunch of legal beagles. Makes doing your IRS return a breeze.

Plus, for some reason, every single year, PA sends me a telephone tax form instead of the mail in variety. You think they'd soon take the hint that I'm not interested in "teletax"

Our damage was $4.00 PA tax
$209 Federal tax (down from $259 thanks to long distance credit)
$0 local

I did the PA taxes on the Internet.

It was pretty easy, since they don't allow for ANY deductions.

Give it a try next year. It's easier than the paper forms which as I remember are pretty confusing.

That is true, I suppose they think that no deductions makes it easy for us.
Gee, it would be nice not to have to worry about using ALL caps, and THIS color of ink, and NO punctuation, and round UP your dollar amounts, though. I worry for three months that that "N" in my last name might be mistaken for an "H".
Maybe I'll give the internet a whirl next year.

BTW, I love how on the forms, it says (federal and state) "if you have a PO Box, see page blah blah blah for instructions". And then you take the time to look it up and it says "Use PO Box only if you do not have mail delivered to your home"

Why don't they just say that on the form? It would make life easier for us, that's why...

they are trying to annoy the hell out of you so that next year you will use a member of the tax-preparer lobby that made them put that in there to confuse you.

Owed $700 to Ed Rendell since my previous employer screwed up my final three paychecks. Uncle Sam got $3 from me.

Getting a big $4 from the Feds but paying almost $400 to NY State.

My daughter had to have her taxes done this year for the first time. Even she owes money to NY State ($15) but gets almost $200 from the Feds.

Feds owe us a bundle; I owe New York like, a hundred or something.

One year I owed the state like $1.35 or something and I felt silly even sending a check.
Another time I was owed on the order of $0.67 and they wrote back saying that they don't cut checks for such a small amount.

Looks like we're the clubhouse leaders... we got two checks back totalling almost $4,000 last week. I tell you, you have to have one of these:

Mini-wolf, Mini-CF similarity score skyrocketing. I don't like how that tee teaches our children to swing at pitches at their eyes. My wife and I were talking about how we'd have to put it away or else Ryan would turn into Rey Ordonez.

We also can't get him to use the bat and ball that came with it. He prefers the one he got for his birthday, much to our delight:

(Oh and I got killed on taxes. I don't want to talk about it.)

My refunds have been going down from year to year because my mortgage interest payments have been decreasing the deeper I get into the mortgage.

Day care expenses will be going down too next year, once my youngest reaches first grade. It won't be long before I'll be a payer in April rather than a receiver. (In over 20 years of filing tax returns I've never yet NOT gotten a refund.)

One deduction that won't be decreasing for me any time soon is real estate taxes.

My problem is that my daughter no longer qualifies for the child tax credit. Soon Lenny will be in that boat too. Yet they still cost us a bundle.
