LoDuca tells Lopez, "Thou shalt not steal."

No score through 3 innings. Jerome Williams has held the Mets hitless through three innings. Glavine matching him with only one single allowed through three. Time for the Mets to break the ice and score some runs.
TransMonk Apr 28 2007 06:02 PM |
The Mets are reaally good at popouts.
iramets Apr 28 2007 06:11 PM |
Black 47 gets through 4, allowing only one hit.

TransMonk Apr 28 2007 06:15 PM |
That Zimmerman can play some D.

Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 06:20 PM |
For those of us that can't see the game, what happened to Valentin? Why has he been replaced by Easley?
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 06:27 PM |
Glavine is on cruise control. Five innings of shut out ball and the only Washington hit is a 2 out single by Felipe Lopez in the thir inning. Unfortunately, the Mets are hitless through 5 innings. They have drawn 4 walks from Nationals starter, Jerome Williams and that is the extent of the Mets offense thus far. Gameday says that Valentin left the game due to an injured knee. Any info regarding the severity of the injury from those watching the game?

Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 06:28 PM |
Beltran breaks up the no hitter with a single.
TransMonk Apr 28 2007 06:30 PM |
Delgado spoils our token hit. Williams has a one hit shutout through six AND he's thrown more balls than strikes. This is becoming embarrassing.
iramets Apr 28 2007 06:32 PM |
Valentin seems to have strained ("hyperextended" sez Darling) his knee reaching to tag Lopez out stealing.

MASN2's broadcast is saying nothing...not that it's anything new.

Willie out to argue about a play at first....I think he's going to get tossed. Editing: Yup, he got tossed. Don't know what is up with this ump tonight. He blew threw calls against the Mets.
iramets Apr 28 2007 06:36 PM |
Willie just got run, protesting a runner getting called safe at first. I don't think he gets run a lot, do you?
Batty31 Apr 28 2007 06:37 PM |
Nope..first ejection of the season.
Batty31 Apr 28 2007 06:39 PM |
Nationals up 1-0, thanks to the bad call at first.
TransMonk Apr 28 2007 06:41 PM |
No...I didn't think he stood up for his team enough last year with the umps. It seems he's had a little more fire in his belly this season so far. He doesn't need to be Pinella, but I'd like to see a manager show a little emotion every once in a while.
Batty31 Apr 28 2007 06:42 PM |
I agree, TransMonk. I would like to see this side of Willie a bit more often. As Gary and Ron just pointed out, the ump got in Willie's face just as Wille was about to walk away...so even the tossing seemed unwarranted.
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 06:46 PM |
Williams issues a lead off walk to Wright in the seventh and gets pulled while pitching a one hit shut out.
Batty31 Apr 28 2007 06:49 PM |
Apparently something was "bothering" Williams. I was on the phone so I didn't catch what that was... Does anyone know?
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 06:49 PM |
Alou GIDP to end the Mets "threat".
TransMonk Apr 28 2007 06:51 PM |
He turned his ankle running the bases I believe.
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 06:52 PM |
Thankfully, Zimmerman can play some E too. Ducks on the pond with 2 outs and David Newhan coming to the plate to hit for Glavine.
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 06:54 PM |
A wild pitch brings Green in to tie the score at one.
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 06:58 PM |
Solid outing by Glavine. It's a shame the offense was completely stymied by a pitcher with a 6+ ERA.

Thanks, TM.

Leadoff walk by Reyes to open the 8th. LoDuca sacrifices him over for the Carloses.
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 07:12 PM |
Beltran intentionally walked to set up the DP and to get to the struggling Delgado. Come on Carlos. Make them pay, I beg of you.

Reyes thrown out at third on a double steal. Beltran moves up to second. Now Delgado strikes out swinging to end the inning. Why am I not surprised that they didn't get a run in.
Gwreck Apr 28 2007 07:17 PM |
Wow, we can't hit. Re Ejections -- glad to see it happen here for Willie. I think he might've gotten tossed all of 2 times last year -- of course, it's hard to have a ton to argue about when you've got a 15 game lead all year.
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 07:25 PM |
Damn it!!!
Johnny Dickshot Apr 28 2007 07:26 PM |

We got a call at first!
Johnny Dickshot Apr 28 2007 07:43 PM |
Holy shit.
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 07:43 PM |
We need to cash in on it like the Nats did earlier.

P.S. Replays showed the Easley was definetly out at 1st. Guess we got the make-up call.
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 07:58 PM |
Hey Jose, throws some damn strikes.
Johnny Dickshot Apr 28 2007 08:02 PM |
Yup. We don't deserve this one much but it ain't about deservin'.
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 08:03 PM |
Thank you. See, good things happen when you actually throw a few strikes.
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 08:14 PM |
Belliard's fly out looked pretty damn deep on gameday. Was it scary or was there never a doubt that it would be caught?
TransMonk Apr 28 2007 08:17 PM |
Beltran had to run back a little, but once he got under it, it was pretty routine.
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 08:19 PM |
Thanks Transmonk. The little red dot on Gameday was right on top of the wall.
Johnny Dickshot Apr 28 2007 08:20 PM |
Heilman got away with a few long drives to fence before the RS-double. Whattaya got for Aaron Sele, stopper.
Frayed Knot Apr 28 2007 08:21 PM |
We've def had the benefit of several loud & deep outs tonight almost as much as we haven't been getting the ones at 1st -- although Gary has gone a bit overboard as far as how bad those first two calls were. They were safe but just barely. The next two were the worst ones; Lopez was clearly out and he eventually scored to go-ahead run, but Easley was out too.
Frayed Knot Apr 28 2007 08:29 PM |
Extra inning games on the road are tough.

8-9-1 due up: Easley, Pitcher, Reyes Not used tonight:
Johnny Dickshot Apr 28 2007 08:38 PM |
Especially when you're aware you've screwed the pooch as furiously as the Mets did in the 8th tonight. Has there been a worse inning all year?
Frayed Knot Apr 28 2007 08:40 PM |
Wow! This is the one spot I WOULD like the bunt.
Johnny Dickshot Apr 28 2007 08:41 PM |
That's what I said in the wrong thread.
TransMonk Apr 28 2007 08:41 PM |
Yahtzee! Easy with a lead off double in the 12th. Castro in to pinch hit?

I'm going to remember that inning the next time someone pleads to me the "small ball" is the only way to play. Washington pitchers got one legit out that inning; we gave them an intentional out and ran into another.
Johnny Dickshot Apr 28 2007 08:42 PM |
Now bring in Perez to run for Castro
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 08:43 PM |
Come on Jose, you're due baby.
Johnny Dickshot Apr 28 2007 08:44 PM |
Let's just do everything backwards tonight.
Johnny Dickshot Apr 28 2007 08:45 PM |
OK. Bunting wasn't necessarily for losers there.
Johnny Dickshot Apr 28 2007 08:46 PM |
I predict LoDuca hits into a triple play.
Frayed Knot Apr 28 2007 08:46 PM |
So do we hang (blame?) all this backwards strategy on Willie, or just assume that this is how things would go if Jerry Manual ran the team?
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 08:46 PM |
Reyes beats out a bunt to load the bases with no outs. If they can't plate a run(s) this inning I'm going to freakin' bed.
Johnny Dickshot Apr 28 2007 08:48 PM |
Jeezus, Paul. OIur Beltranian Overlord will save us.
Johnny Dickshot Apr 28 2007 08:49 PM |
And he does. Blue Point Toasted Lagers on me fellas
OlerudOwned Apr 28 2007 08:49 PM |

Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 08:50 PM |
Carlos Beltran decides to take things into his own hands and doubles down the line to drive in Castro and Reyes.
TransMonk Apr 28 2007 08:50 PM |
C'mon David, hit one out!
OlerudOwned Apr 28 2007 08:51 PM |

Now it's up to the bullpen to put an end to this marathon.
Rockin' Doc Apr 28 2007 09:05 PM |
Finally. The Mets win 6-2 in 12.
Batty31 Apr 28 2007 09:06 PM |
Always an adventure with Wagner, but finally it's over!
Frayed Knot Apr 28 2007 09:14 PM |
Ugly but effective.
Elster88 Apr 28 2007 11:21 PM |
Randazzo's idiocy allowed both the Nats and the Mets to score one run that they shouldn't have. So he cancels himself out.
Elster88 Apr 28 2007 11:22 PM |
Not as adventurous as it could have been. I stay chill until the tying run reaches the plate. Then I get nervous.
A Boy Named Seo Apr 29 2007 09:03 AM |
MASN is really pretty bad. On the two great Zimmerman plays, Easley looked safe by an eye lash (not going to kill Randazzo on that one) but the network never showed a slow-mo replay of the Reyes call at first. I knew it was close, but the replays they showed were of shots that stuck with Zimmerman after he got up and threw and I was a little pissed to not get a good look at that. We definitely got a make-up after that, but I don't think it was a make-up as much as a fuck up, because after that blown call came the most blatant screw up on the DP grounder. That first base up was just terrible. Yeah, the 8th was run strangely. I thought it was Manuel calling the show on his own. I thought Reyes might try to steal second (and think Willie would've done that), but Lo Duca bunted immediately. MASN's Bob Carpenter, who makes me want to cut my own ears off, thought Reyes would run, too. The Mets knew Flores' arm pretty well and he looked good gunning down Reyes on that double-steal, but he probably should've swiped second and then let Lo Douchebag bunt. I got scared when Manuel yanked Smith after one hitter and brought Sele in when he did. I thought we might be in for a long night, and thought he mighta shoulda gone with Burgos there instead, especially with the pitcher's spot in the order coming up, but it ended up not being an issue. I would've felt a lot more comfortable with Sele and Wagner left looking at extras, though. Lots of agita for me from a bullpen that went 6 innings, gave up just 4 hits, and one earned run. Great job, guys, but less walks, please. Less walks. The offense looked putrid and I think it's no coincidence we play like shit in the black uni's. Whack the black already.
