Alou update?

I think the idea is to get him in a good situation to get him going. He and Castro are pretty similar level hitters over the courses of their respective careers, with --- unsurprisingly --- Newhan the better reacher and Castro the better slugger.

i've got a great situation to "get him going"- the starting LF job in New Orleans.

Castro career: OBP .307, SLG .392 Newhan career: OBP .315, .SLG 382 I remember in late '05 when some fans (no on here off the top of my head) were clamoring for Castro to start over Piazza.

They acquired him for a reason.
Then Cripes, don't suggest it.

Forget it. Beltran's been scratched.

Gameday has a different lineup:

The actual lineup is Reyes SS Chavez CF Wright 3B Delgado 1B Green RF Castro C Newhan LF Gotay 2B Pelfrey P Looks like a late Beltran scratch.

I don't like today's line up much. With Newhan, Gotay, and Castro all starting in place of regulars it appears that Willie is more concerned with resting players than winning today. I can understand resting LoDuca, but Damion Easley shouldn't be in need of a rest and Chavez should still be pretty fresh. If you going to rest Chavez to give some one a start, why not at least do it against a tough lefhanded pitcher?

First two defensive plays by Newhan he sort of seems awkward out there. Maybe I'm wrong.

Delgado looks a bit like Keith, turning a 3-6-3 double play.

Ronnie shares an anecdote about Junior Ortiz. "His English wasn't great, and his Spanish wasn't great either." He spoke with a stutter, and he'd chew tobacco. When he'd come to the mound to talk, he'd be stuttering and drooling tobacco juice and it took him ten minutes to say whatever he had to say.

Hey, Mets, this game isn't going to win itself.

Gwreck May 06 2007 04:43 PM |
Can't believe Reyes didn't get an error on that play.

Radio mentions the Mets lineup the last time they lost in Arizona- none of them are still on the Mets.
|
Willets Point May 06 2007 05:50 PM |
I blame this loss on Elster's hubris in the title and first post.
|
Gwreck May 06 2007 05:51 PM |
We needed a PH for either Newhan or Gotay. You either use Alou or not play him in the field or you use LoDuca. I like getting the bench players ABs too, but when the game is on the line, do you use Moises Alou or do you use David Newhan? Loved that Moises was anxious to get in the game, too, just sittin' there, spittin the sunflower seeds.

Talk about a complete suck-ass day in baseball. My son sleeps in the afternoon, but because of the late start, rather than catching the Mets game, I had to settle for Yanks-Mariners and Braves-Dodgers. During the Yanks telecast, I watched the M's get shut out, then nearly puked watching the crowd go crazy when Asshead announced he was returning. Then in the Braves game, I watch Grady Little leave in his reliever, who clearly has nothing, long enough for the guy to give up 5 runs and the lead. It's getting to the point that I wonder if Grady knows he's allowed to make pitching changes in the middle of an inning.

Benjamin Grimm May 07 2007 01:51 PM |
Grady is lucky to have gotten a second managing job after that disaster in 2003. I never would have hired him for any position other than "Dumb Guy."
|
Edgy DC May 07 2007 01:53 PM |
Do you have such an opening?
|
Benjamin Grimm May 07 2007 02:12 PM |
If you're smart enough to send a resume, then you're overqualified.
