Does anyone really care what Barry Bonds is up to besides ESPN? There's
metirish May 07 2007 06:27 PM |
I care, one of the best to ever play is about to break one of the most revered records in sports,Selig should care,he helped create the monster.
Kid Carsey May 07 2007 06:41 PM |
One vote for Bonds.
metirish May 07 2007 06:45 PM |
Were you not sad that Hank broke Ruths record,I ask because apparently from what I read and hear a whole lot of Americans were pissed that Aaron broke...
Benjamin Grimm May 07 2007 06:48 PM |
Mostly those were the racists.
Frayed Knot May 07 2007 06:58 PM |
No, not a lot. A handful of racists plus some Yanqui fans who get upset whenever one of their records goes out the window - but, by far, they were not the majority. There are also always some fans (particularly in baseball) who think that everything was better back in the good old days and that a modern player breaking anything must mean it's tainted. Rose breaking Cobb's hit record ran into some of that.

OlerudOwned May 07 2007 06:59 PM |
I'll be beaming myself if Perez outshines Zito tonight.
Gwreck May 07 2007 07:09 PM |
Count me in among those hoping we lay a serious smack down (what, our $76 million wasn't enough?!?!) on Zito tonight.
metirish May 07 2007 07:12 PM |
Surprise,surprise..... In no way was I thinking that kC was among the racist people.

Vizquel should go join the circus.
OlerudOwned May 07 2007 08:22 PM |
Vizquel stubbornly refuses to retire.
Edgy DC May 07 2007 08:22 PM |
But there does seem to be an OJ-like gap between the way he's viewed by blacks and by whites.
Nymr83 May 07 2007 08:25 PM |
which i find strange considering he is breaking a black man's record, if he were chasing pete rose (well, ok, if he were chasing a white guy people actually like...) i'd expect the difference, here i'm not sure why it exists.
Edgy DC May 07 2007 08:39 PM |
I guess because he's a black man accomplishing great things and the media is generally painting him as a villian. Hank Aaron is an abstraction in this context.
OlerudOwned May 07 2007 08:44 PM |
Last year, I just though Ollie looked silly up at the plate.
Edgy DC May 07 2007 08:45 PM |
Oliver can hit some.
OlerudOwned May 07 2007 08:47 PM |
Wright's broken two bats against a guy who's fastball tops out around 85.
Edgy DC May 07 2007 08:49 PM |
A Kevin Mitchell jersey sighting.
TransMonk May 07 2007 08:50 PM |
I saw it, too.
Nymr83 May 07 2007 08:51 PM |
the media should be taking the opportunity to heap praise on aaron
Nymr83 May 07 2007 09:01 PM |
We're scoreless in the 4th, is anyone else staying up for this one?
OlerudOwned May 07 2007 09:02 PM |
Still here. I'll probably wind up passing out right before the excitement starts, just like on Thursday.
TransMonk May 07 2007 09:03 PM |
0-0 tie in the 4th featuring 2 decent lefties...I'll be here until someone wins.
Edgy DC May 07 2007 09:03 PM |
I'm up.
Batty31 May 07 2007 09:05 PM |
I'm here.....
Nymr83 May 07 2007 09:07 PM |
things we didn't want to know...
Edgy DC May 07 2007 09:09 PM |
Well, Randy Winn ruins everything. I've got to get dressed now.
OlerudOwned May 07 2007 09:13 PM |
Does the Giants PA announcer have to act that excited for every batter? I'd imagine it would get grating pretty quickly.
Batty31 May 07 2007 09:14 PM |
I was going to comment that the PA announcer was annoying..then I thought it was just me. Bonds goes down looking...
OlerudOwned May 07 2007 09:14 PM |
Impressive way to get yr first K.
TransMonk May 07 2007 09:17 PM |
Perez with twice as many strikes as balls through 4. He's been pretty fun to watch lately.
Nymr83 May 07 2007 09:17 PM |
Zito is looking good, but i still think the mets made the right nove not signing that ludicrus contract.
OlerudOwned May 07 2007 09:23 PM |
Easley's facial expressions seem to range from stoic to bemused.
OlerudOwned May 07 2007 09:24 PM |
Wright breaks another bat. Keep burning through the slump-infected lumber.
Nymr83 May 07 2007 09:25 PM |
yeah i think its time for him and delgado to donate their entire bat supply to a beaver colony and get new ones.
Nymr83 May 07 2007 09:28 PM |
is that a homer??
Elster88 May 07 2007 09:30 PM |
I was impresssed with his post-game interview after his 3-run homer in Arizona.

Bleepin' Molinas. I hat 'em all.
OlerudOwned May 07 2007 09:31 PM |
Who tries to catch a baseball with their forearms like that? Chump.
Elster88 May 07 2007 09:32 PM |
Gary is complaining that since it didn't hit the fan it should be a double. To me it's still hard to tell if it hit the top of the wall or not.
Batty31 May 07 2007 09:32 PM |
He wasn't even close with those arms...
Willets Point May 07 2007 09:34 PM |
Call me biased, but I definitely see the wall padding fluctuating as if it were hit by the ball.
TransMonk May 07 2007 09:36 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on May 07 2007 09:37 PM |
Ollie's not looking good in the 5th...but he's still throwing strikes.
Nymr83 May 07 2007 09:36 PM |
WTF? damn it!
Batty31 May 07 2007 09:36 PM |
Did Green even see that ball???
OlerudOwned May 07 2007 09:37 PM |
My kind of glove is an ugly glove.
Willets Point May 07 2007 09:38 PM |
The defense is not looking good tonight either.
Elster88 May 07 2007 09:39 PM |
What happened please? I'm flipping.

TransMonk May 07 2007 09:47 PM |
Well, this night may be earlier than I thought.
TransMonk May 07 2007 09:48 PM |
9 run Giant 5th...only 3 runs earned...ouch.
OlerudOwned May 07 2007 09:50 PM |
I've got to be up too early tomorrow to deal with this.
Willets Point May 07 2007 09:50 PM |
Too bad our offense sucks cuz they've really put us in a hole.
Elster88 May 07 2007 09:50 PM |
You know, I don't like the Molina family.
Elster88 May 07 2007 09:56 PM |
9-2 on the Green double.
Willets Point May 07 2007 09:59 PM |
It's funny they both have the same middle name.
Edgy DC May 07 2007 09:59 PM |
Yeah, they use "Fucking" as a middle name too much. Still Yady actually, you know, cleared the fence.
Edgy DC May 07 2007 10:05 PM |
Two hands, Shawnie.
TransMonk May 07 2007 10:12 PM |
I think that's seven putouts and an error tonight for Greenie...and he hasn't lost his hat once.
Edgy DC May 07 2007 10:34 PM |
Steve Kline is still playing baseball?
Edgy DC May 07 2007 10:36 PM |
I'm getting the Gigante broadcasters and there's been a nasty fan argument going on this half inning being picked up by their mics. Any of that bleeding into the Met booth?
Batty31 May 07 2007 10:37 PM |
I didn't hear any of it..then again I have the volume on low.
TransMonk May 07 2007 10:44 PM |
I don't think it's a fan argument...those fans have been giving the business to LoDuca all night. Kind of harsh stuff, too.
Batty31 May 07 2007 10:44 PM |
Kline just tossing his glove in the dugout reminds of the time he threw it in the stands in a game against the Mets many years ago.
Frayed Knot May 07 2007 10:44 PM |
Yes and he's apparently still an ass.
Done.
Nymr83 May 07 2007 10:45 PM |
I'm going to bed, fuckin giants.

iramets May 07 2007 10:49 PM |

I've got the radio on loud (in the next room actually) and not hearing a thing from the fans. What are they saying that's so fascinating?
TransMonk May 07 2007 11:05 PM |
To me, watching the same broadcast as Edgy, it sounded like there are a couple of fans near the SF TV booth that have been yelling at LoDuca all night. Something about hoping he had a pre-nup, something about the girl next door, all stuff about his public break up.
Willets Point May 07 2007 11:38 PM |
On the bright side, the rest of the NL East & the Yankees all lost tonight as well.
Centerfield May 08 2007 08:41 AM |
What an awful inning. It reminded me of the Chan Ho Park inning.
Edgy DC May 08 2007 08:48 AM |
Maybe a New Yorker was there, because somebody kept retorting, "SHUT DA FUCK UP!" And a few moments later: "SHUuuuuT...! DA FUuuuuCK! UP!" Maybe Red-Ass didn't lose his bat entirely by accident.
Willets Point May 08 2007 09:06 PM |
I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that the winning pitcher of this game would fit well in the Mets rotation, and he was available just for money last winter. I'd feel the rotation would be less on the bubble if Pelfrey & Perez could work out their kinks without the pressure of being the #3 & #4 pitchers and that they could be our contingency plan when someone like Hernandez is hurt instead of scraping up the likes of Park or Sosa. I imagine the opposing teams would be shitting their keks if the Mets came to town and league ERA leader John Maine was the #5 pitcher. Oh well, I guess we have to deal with what we're dealt, but the last two losses could have been wins under different circumstances.

soupcan May 08 2007 09:08 PM |
And my mother could be my father if she had a dick.
Edgy DC May 08 2007 09:32 PM |
I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that the Mets still lead the majors in ERA, by a not insignificant amount, that six of the nine runs were un-earned, and that Molina's first homer was really a double.
Rockin' Doc May 08 2007 09:53 PM |
San Francisco grossly overpaid for Zito in my opinion. I wanted to see Zito in a Mets uniform, but not at the price it ended up costing to sign him this winter. I think that over the life of his contract the Mets will be glad not to be saddled with his salary.
Johnny Dickshot May 09 2007 08:14 AM |
I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that Barry Zito on his best day probably wouldn't win behind the defense the Mets played in this game.
