1977 World Series DVD set

Because I like collecting stuff like this I bought the 1977 World Series set, which features Tom Seaver broadcasting with Keith Jackson and Howard Cosell for ABC.

Good to listen to, course via your favorite rental choices!

Just started to watch Game 1, so far no sign of the pomposity that Seaver had as a Yankee and Met broadcaster.

You can see me there, behind first, lower level, under the overhang, about 15 feet past the bag. Play it frame by frame. I think I had a blue jacket on.

I knew just from looking at the title who had started this thread.

HA! Cosell says that Reggie was injured when his team faced Seaver's team (I assume meaning Tom's then current squad in 1972) and Seaver corrected him, Cosell didn't have any kind of comeback to that one though.

It's funny, but I don't remember a blessed thing about that series. I was in
high school, probably ninth grade ... I hated the Yankees and I hated all the
Yankee love. I remember this dude Eric that sat in front of me in home room,
his last name escapes me but it's a cross between Barrymanillow and Bal-
thasar or something. It totally blew his mind that I was Mets fan and he'd
come in every morning early that school year all revved up to talk about the
Yankees and I just didn't care ... it made him nuts. I guess I remember him
more for lending me Rainbow Rising which got me into that. Funny how the
mind works, I haven't thought about all that in ions.

Who won the series that year? (hee hee)

Funny thing about ABC's coverage, I have the 1975 set and there are no current players in NBC's booth and the broadcasters are established baseball guys, while ABC (and I believe this was the era for Monday Night Baseball right?) had their two biggest football guys in there in Jackson and Cosell along with a novice current ballplayer.

I also have the 1979 set that has the ABC broadcast and at least they had then Angel broadcaster Don Drysdale as the third wheel in the booth with Cosell and Jackson. And of course by 1986 Tim McCarver and Jim Palmer was added to the mix that featured Jackson and Al Michaels (who at least was a Red announcer in the early 70's)

Roone Arledge knew how to put together a great football team, seemed like he was being gimmicky though with his baseball selections.

I swear Steve is really a not-so-closeted Yankee fan...

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I had a dream last night that Steve J. Rogers drove me to Los Angeles. WTF is up with that?

It was very brave of you to even get in a car with SteveJRogers,
let alone go cross-country with him.
