In it's earliest days, the Crane Pool Forum was an invitation only (secret) forum. That is why some people (still) consider this to be a forum of elitists. The first year of the CPF's existence was quite a tumultuous one.

There was later a short lived (I think) secret forum for only the coolest of the cool. Needless to say, I was never invited to the Sergio Ferrer Forum.

That should give you some insight as to the origins of some of the jokes alluding to "secret forums" and "elitists" that pop up around here from time to time.
