And now is the time for syncopated beats, synchronized dance moves, and ghastly hair crimes. A totally meaningless poll to determine the best (or at least the most bearable) 80's Freestyle hit song.

#1) "Show Me" by The Cover Girls

#2) "Come Go With Me" by Expose

#3) "I.O.U." by Freez

#4) "What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy)" by Information Society

#5) "I Wonder If I Take You Home" by Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam

#6) "Let the Music Play" by Shannon

Pure Energy...rocking the Nimoy, Minnesota style.

I watched the ghastly "IOU" just long enough to see if I could believe my eyes--the yellow shorts outfit the girls have on? I had one just like it; I made it myself.

Edit: I voted for Expose, but most of their other songs are much much better

I voted for "Come Go With Me," but if there was an "other" option that's what I would have voted for. I used to love 80's Freestyle dance music so I might have voted for something by TKA, Lisette Melendez, Judy Torres, George LaMond, Sweet Sensation, Johnny O, Coro, etc.. (anyone remember any of them?)

Expose wasn't a group so much as a brand, with the svengalis firing and replacing the entire three-woman lineup at least twice.

True, but I was trying to stick to the freestyle dance songs as opposed to ballads (I left out Lisa Lisa's "Lost in Emotion" for the same reason).

On the other hand I kind of wonder if Expose and the Cover Girls are the same group. Maybe just six women who rotate between the two?

I am having bad Friday night roller skating flashbacks from this thread. I was always a rocker chick, but my friend loved disco. Her mother was our chauffer, so I was forced to go skating on disco night and not rock night which was Saturday. Total nightmare for me (except when I was able to get the DJ to play Run DMC)

My hair was higher than any of the chicks from Expose or the Cover Girls!

Of course I voted for Information Society...Pure Energy! Always loved that song...love the hair..and most importantly..SKULLS!!! How can I not vote for a video with skulls in it???!!

Never saw this poll before....WTF is up with me?

Voted for "Pure Energy",I remember the song,I think...anyway the guy looks like a cheap version of Michael Hutchence.

Can't believe it's ten years since his death this November.

Interesting. I didn;t know there was a name for the style of music we saw there. I'd have called it "80s dance music." I also didn't think at first glance I knew any of those songs (except the Shannon one) and actually, I knew them all.

I'm voting for Shannon here.

My favorite "80s dance songs" were "I Got The Power" by Snap! "Pump Up the Volume" by M/A/R/R/S and "Gonna Make You Sweat" by C+C Music Factory which I still confuse in my mind today. Do they count as "Freestyle"?

I have a good friend who just loved freestyle music back in the day - I have to show these to her...

You know, I never heard the term freestyle until a couple of years ago and thus before that would call it "80's dance songs" too. The songs you list above are classified in the genre of house music. Also only "Pump Up the Volume" is from the 80's, the other two are from 1990.

Here's a list that purports to chart the 100 Greatest Freestyle Songs. Yes, it does list 200 songs.

Someday, when we've exhausted every rock and new wave artist, I'll do the House poll.
