From the Sunday, May 6, NY Times:
Frayed Knot May 15 2007 12:41 PM |
I no longer have that issue, but I think everything was kosher.
cooby May 15 2007 12:44 PM |
Okay, I see what I am doing wrong, duh.
cooby May 15 2007 04:40 PM |
Changed the title in case any other burning crossword discussions come up
Frayed Knot May 15 2007 04:54 PM |
Occasionally I'll get stuck on a puzzle somewhere and swear that they must have made a mistake, or a typo, or a huge screw-up in the clues someplace.
cooby May 15 2007 05:41 PM |
Yeah, me too :)
seawolf17 May 15 2007 06:14 PM |
Anyone else try the Bill Clinton puzzle from the Times recently? Toughie.
cooby May 15 2007 06:20 PM |
I'm printing it out now; I'll give it a try

soupcan May 15 2007 09:03 PM |
I tried to find it the other day - where is it?
cooby May 15 2007 09:15 PM |
It's right above the little Uncle Sam guy and the guy with the bullhorn.
Frayed Knot May 15 2007 09:24 PM |
Say what?
cooby May 16 2007 04:12 AM |
Sure, on this page...
cooby May 16 2007 06:41 AM |
I do have one question...who is Boomer? Clinton's nickname is Bubba, right?
soupcan May 16 2007 07:22 AM |
Thanks I'll do it on the train tonight.
cooby May 16 2007 07:24 AM |
Nothing
seawolf17 May 16 2007 07:53 AM |
I'm assuming they mean Boomer as in "Baby Boomer." It has something to do with the song titles, but I can't figure what yet. And some of his clues are very obscure.
Frayed Knot May 16 2007 08:38 AM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on May 16 2007 08:42 AM |
The answers are making fun of the aging boomer generation.
Edgy DC May 16 2007 08:41 AM |
Har!
cooby May 16 2007 09:28 AM |
No! No! Don't tell us!
soupcan May 16 2007 09:35 AM |
Staying out of this thread until I tackle Bubba's puzzle.
Willets Point May 16 2007 10:32 AM |
I think a crossword puzzle designed by George W. Bush would be even more challenging since Bush is so good at making up words.
cooby May 16 2007 08:52 PM |
Apparently I do not know enough old songs
Herb Gardner May 20 2007 08:06 PM |
I can not figure out how to print this out.
Rockin' Doc May 20 2007 08:37 PM |
Is emu one of the clues in the Clinton puzzle?
soupcan May 21 2007 06:50 AM |
That Clinton puzzle is fucked up.
cooby May 21 2007 08:47 PM |
I finished it too but I still don't understand some of it

What is a Men's REA?
cooby Jul 11 2007 06:24 AM |
Did anybody figure out who the sitcom character with the leather jacket in the Smithsonian is?
soupcan Jul 11 2007 08:10 AM |
Could not get that either!
cooby Jul 11 2007 08:14 AM |
The only other person I could think of was Colonel Hogan and I hardly think that show would rate a Smithsonian display.
Edgy DC Jul 11 2007 09:21 AM |
FONZIE's other name is ARTHUR.
Johnny Dickshot Jul 11 2007 09:26 AM |
Arthur C. Fonzerelli
Edgy DC Jul 11 2007 09:32 AM |
How about it, Coo? Does ARTHURC work?
cooby Jul 11 2007 09:39 AM |
Dang, I left it at home. But geez, that sounds a little tricky even for them.
HahnSolo Jul 11 2007 09:50 AM |
Could it be THEFONZ?
cooby Jul 11 2007 10:07 AM |
That is a really good suggestion, if it's not ArthurC.
soupcan Jul 11 2007 10:28 AM |
I remember trying every variation of Winkler's character - FONZIE, THE FONZ, ARTHUR, etc and nothing worked.
cooby Jul 11 2007 10:38 AM |
Well, like I say, it's at home but I think it was a Friday a couple of weeks ago
soupcan Jul 11 2007 10:52 AM |
Found it and checked the answer.
cooby Jul 11 2007 11:08 AM |
well....was it any of the above?
soupcan Jul 11 2007 11:22 AM |
As a matter of fact it was.
cooby Jul 11 2007 11:52 AM |
Does it end with a C?
soupcan Jul 11 2007 12:18 PM |
Are you going to keep asking me for hints until you 'guess' it?
cooby Jul 11 2007 01:49 PM |
Well, obviously, if your answer doesn't end with a "C", then it's wrong...
Edgy DC Jul 11 2007 01:53 PM |
You're killing us here.

Time to rethink your choices in life coobster.
Willets Point Jul 12 2007 07:47 AM |
Tell us the fucking answer NOW!!!!
soupcan Jul 12 2007 08:01 AM |
I realize that you are in mourning but the profanity is simply not necessary.
HahnSolo Jul 12 2007 08:23 AM |
Hahn, your thoughts on your contribution of THEFONZ to this thread:
cooby Jul 12 2007 08:46 AM |
Hahn Solo, very funny :)
Edgy DC Jul 12 2007 08:47 AM |
The Fonz solves another problem in 22 minutes.
soupcan Jul 12 2007 08:49 AM |
Aaaaaay.
seawolf17 Jul 12 2007 09:24 AM |
What clue could possibly yield either "cornet" or "zenith"? Those two words, on the surface, have nothing in common.
soupcan Jul 12 2007 01:20 PM |
The clue was 'Crown'
cooby Jul 12 2007 02:17 PM |
To me, Zenith is a TV set
cooby Jul 12 2007 06:36 PM |
Willets, whom are you mourning?
Willets Point Jul 12 2007 08:28 PM |
I don't know.
Herb Gardner Jul 13 2007 05:54 AM |
That one was eaxy

A cornet is a horn, isn't it? You're right, how stupid can I get?
