Survivor (split from APNP)

Must avoid Sopranos thread till I get a chance to see the show.

Watched the survivor finale instead.

I was rooting for Dreamz -- his tattling on Alex/Mookie was the greatest screw in Survivor history -- but what a bonehead. The smart play was to give Yau the idol on the condition they vote together. Worst case, Dreamz faces the easy-to-beat Cassandra/Earl in a challenge. Best case, jury has to decide between 3 strong players and you'll probably get a few for being honest and devious. Instead he paid $1 million for a truck.

Best season of Survivor ever. You had the most likable character since Rupert (Yau), the best tribal council in the show's history (the one where they blindsided Edgardo), two hidden idols that directly affected votes... great, great, great, great. I can't say enough great things about this season. You could put a half dozen of this season's players on the next Survivor All-Stars (Yau, Dreamz, Stacy, Mookie, Boo, Rocky) easily.

The show is fucking brilliant... and then they go and tell us that Survivor 15 (15!!) will be in China. Outstanding. It gets better every single season; it's the best show on television. Jeff Probst is my hero.

Well, the cross-examination scene was especially barfworthy this year. Didn't Alex think he'd already been humiliated enough? Lisi? Gross.

I wanted Dreamz to win to prove that having a brain is unimportant.

The cross-examination scene was pointless because Earl was going to win. Lisi was a moron; she was completely worthless. Alex made attorneys everywhere look stupid, because he wasn't half as intelligent as he thought he was. The "Four Horsemen" concept was brilliant TV, because it was edited and produced so well -- we all knew what was going on, but their comments made them seem so confident in their "control of the game."

Yes, Dreamz was in a tough spot, but by keeping the necklace, he automatically loses; it brought the best season ever to a crashing halt, and it was too bad that he wasn't smart enough to see that. If he had given it to Yau, and somehow convinced him and Earl to get rid of Cassandra, who was also worthless, it sets up a GREAT final three:

* Yau, who won challenges and played the smartest game;
* Dreamz, who was a complete wild card, but played the integrity card at a key moment; and
* Earl, who was smoother than smooth, stuck with his dude Yau, and was in control pretty much from day one.

Probably no way Yau doesn't win, but at least the other two have a shot at a few votes. By screwing Yau, though, Dreamz automatically -- with nothing else -- has to know that he doesn't have enough votes on the jury to win; the Horsemen & Stacy all openly hated him, and Yau sure as hell wasn't going to vote for him... so there's five votes you aren't getting.

Discussion of a TV show is fairly purposeful even if some question the purpose of TV and especially the program in question.

]You had the most likable character since Rupert

Nah. Rupert was this guy:

He was on Survivor 7 -- the pirate one -- then came back for Survivor 8, the All-Star show.

Rudy. He was from Survivor 1. It's gotten a lot better since then.

I can't understand why Dreams did not go to Yau and say, "Okay, I'll give back the immunity as part of the deal, but let's vote out Earl." Keeping that immunity necklace killed any chances he had.
These guys had to see the writing on the wall that Earl would be their toughest competition in a final 2 (or 3 as it was) scenario.

Actually, Survivor was never better than its first season. I continued to watch for a while after that, but it got to a point where I couldn't bear it any more. Like with 24, each season is little different from the previous one. I got sick of seeing Jeff Probst announce some incredible twist that turned out to not be so incredible, followed by the cast members gasping and gaping at each other.

And, if he'd convinced Yau to vote out Earl, then (a) he's the good guy, because he kept his end of the deal, and (b) Yau's the bad guy, because he voted off his partner.

Problem is, though, considering he gets none of the votes from the remaining Horsemen, he still needs five votes from the Stacy-Rocky-Michelle-Lisi-Boo-Earl contingent. Tough. If nothing else, maybe it opens the door a crack for Cassandra, but I doubt it.

If I'm Dreamz, I deal with Yao to vote out Cassandra, and hope Earl and Yau somehow cancel one another out. Awful endgame following a brilliant game for him.

This was one of the best versions of Survivor ever. Prolly not enuf hot chixxx, but the assholes got theirs in humiliating fashion for once and there was lots of balls-out strategy employed. Plus the black people weren't voted out in the first week.

Does that mean that a typical Survivor is like a slasher film? Do the people who have sex get voted out next?

Sorta.
