John Maine.

Found this today in an article.... ] That John Maine, as the focus on him gets sharper, will start having ugly episodes with the media. The kid is a complete introvert and I believe he resents, not revels in, all the attention. I'm already seeing bad signs: Before games, he avoids being bothered by plugging into an iPod and doing a crossword puzzle at his locker, or spreading across the sofa couch in the clubhouse and watching TV, in both cases curiously never making eye contact with anyone. Mike Geffner is a Lupica clone and this was from his "rundown" article Sunday. I don't care if he has ugly incidents with the media. (I mean, I'd prefer if he didn't, but I'm not going to get all upset if he does.) Steve Carlton wasn't that friendly with the media, and I wouldn't have minded having HIM on my team. Maine's job is to get guys out, not to shmooze with reporters from The Pennysaver.

A few more pointlessly insulting articles like this, and nobody will blame Maine if he does get mad at reporters. Then again, now that the knee-jerk reaction has gone away, I hope Maine realizes that this is the kind of comment he's better off not dignifying with a response.

having heard him on mlb radio he came across as a fairly smart 'non-jock' type guy. Kinda shy & quiet but pleasant too.

? it'll only get ugly if the reporters want it to be ugly.... has Maine done anything yet to make it ugly for this sorry ass reporter? just cuz he doesn't want to talk to the media (who could blame him), Geffner's saying that it's going to be ugly? where the hell is this guy getting that from, besides.....being a jerk?

Hard to believe he'd actually want to concentrate and shut out the outside world before a game.
