What do you wear around the house?

cooby

This question was inspired by my parents. When I drop in on them, they are always impeccably dressed, usually in a nice pair of jeans, a casual shirt, shoes and sneakers. Mom in Keds, Dad in Rockports. In other words they don't just wear any old thing.
Yesterday, I dropped in and Mom had on a pretty pair of light blue slacks, a light blue flowered polo shirt, and a white sweater. And she apologized for looking tacky! Good grief.

So anyway, do you dress in case guests show up? What do you wear when you're home?

Unless I'm working in the yard or in the shop, I dress preety much the same at home as when I go out. In the warmer months months it's usually polo shirt and shorts. Not gym shorts or drawstring shorts, but shorts with pockets and a belt. Generally wear Timberland dock shoes or Puma tennis shoes. In the cooler months, I generally wear jeans or Khaki pants with a light weight sweater, mock turtleneck, or long sleeved cotton shirt.

I guess I should hang out with your parents.

Well, now we know that Donna Reed is Cooby's mom....

My daughter teases me because no matter what I'm wearing, my shirt is always tucked in...

T-shirt. And either blue jeans or sweatpants.

No one around (other than the fam) and I'm not going out: t-shirt and sweatpants.

Someone coming over (or I'll be leaving the house): buttoned shirt and jeans.

I'm of the "sweatpants are never acceptable out-of-door apparel unless for exercise purposes" school.

Yeah, me too. If I'm going anywhere (other than the mailbox) I'll switch from sweatpants to jeans.

Today I'm working at home and I'm wearing the jeans. But I may switch to the sweatpants later.

Definitely been cutting back on the sweatpants outside, unless going to & from the gym.

I'm blue-jean poor right now so been looking more like a lame-o Clinton Kelly "weekend dad" in khakis & shit.

White v-neck that you buy in packs of 3. Pants are always some sort of warm-up pants (not nylon, because my wife hates the "swoosh" sound they make when I walk).

In house this weather I wear comfortable Old Navy pants..kinda light cargo ones, out it's jeans and tee-shirts...for work I need to wear shirt and dress pants so I hate wearing them other times.

Never wear sweatpants around the house,it maybe because of where I am from,if you went to Ireland you'd be forgiven for thinking people there are health freaks, the men at least, just about every teen and young adult male wears tracksuits(sweats/top),I mean they wear the things everywhere,Church, the pub, some clubs(if they let you in?)...I hate them...:)

"Do you know the message you're sending to people by wearing sweatpants? You're saying; 'I give up, I can't compete in normal society so I may as well be comfortable' " -- Jerry to George

I'm not a sweats outside guy either.
But inside I consider it dressed up if the jeans I'm wearing don't have holes in them.

if i wear khaki's to work, i'll usually wear 'em at home, but will invariably switch to a nice t-shirt.

on weekends, its mostly t-shirt & jeans (or shorts), but neither of which would be ratty. i have about a hundred ratty t-shirts (run a race get a t-shirt. run 100 races, accumulate 100 t-shirts, tho some are just older "nice t-shirts") that i wear to the gym and for playing non-running sports, and can't bear to wear any of those crappy things in real life.

i don't actually own any sweats... i do have some warmups, but i actually wear them for warming up in cold weather races, and tend to segregate my athletic wear from my regular wear. particularly the running shorts...

When I come home from work and I'm not going out and nobody's coming over I change into a pair of Syracuse basketball shorts (long ones that extend below my knees and have the mid-80's team look) or if it's cooler I'll put on my flannel Mets pajamas (yes, I really do have a pair and wear them) and either a t-shirt or sweatshirt.

Weekends I'm in shorts and a t-shirt if its warm, sweatshirt if cool but always shorts year-round.

No shoes on inside the house. Learned that from my Korean friend in 8th grade, David Hahn. You'd go to his apartment and take off your shoes and have his grandma serve you home made Kim Chee while his older sister fawned over the Bjorn Borg posters all over her room.

Sorry did I go off topic?

I never wear shorts unless I'm walking on the treadmill.

Otherwise, it's always long pants for me, even if it's 95 degrees outside.

Shorts only when it is beastly hot out and never in the evening (unless I'm in Mexico or some vacation spot).

I wear yoga pants every single day (don't even own a pair of jeans), so I'm always "casual". I never get company, so I don't worry about. If I'm not going back out, I usual change into my pajama bottoms ( I even have a Mets one) as soon as I get home. I have a couple of pairs of shorts, but I would never be caught outside with them. I also wear long pants, even if it's boiling out.

What are yoga pants?

Batty31

Pants made for doing yoga in. :P http://www.smartaichi.com/images/PHOTOSYogaPants.jpg

I am the only one in my office, so I don't have to dress up for work.

They look exceedingly comfy.

At home in the winter, I am usually wearing either sweatpants (yes, I'll admit it, and one pair my family especially likes is turquoise), flannel pants, or my lucky black velvet pants. While visiting my daughter a few weeks ago we went to a Target and I got some really soft comfy jersey lounge pants that feel like you have nothing on and they will surely get a lot of use next winter.
For a shirt I always have on a long sleeve tee (my favorite is a very old, faded, ratty black Sony tee that my husband got at a trade show when he worked for Corning) and sometimes if I get cold, an actual flannel shirt.
Socks, usually my son's, and this ridiculous pair of maroon fleece clog slippers that my family never fail to diss.

In the summer you will find me in a swimming suit and if I know you are coming, maybe a tee shirt over it.

In other words, I don't dress up much around the house, and with my natty parents, I'm not sure where my slovenliness comes from :)

Edit: Also, in the summer, for special occasions, I have this big pair of orange Nike shorts

Do they come with bellies like that?

cooby
May 24 2007 10:27 AM

You mean puffy?

Batty31
May 24 2007 10:36 AM

LOL..um...no. And my belly is always covered when I wear them.

Cooby, I have to look for those jersey lounge pants at Target. They might be perfect for summer! They sound very comfortable. Those velvet pants sound nice...I LOVE velvet anything.

And yes, I do dress up and actually wear a skirt every once in awhile...but only if I'm going to a club or the horror convention.

cooby
May 24 2007 10:56 AM

Batty, yep they are light weight so I would think they'd be great for summer evenings too!
They were actually in the mens department (men's clothes are so much more comfy!) in a Target in Wilmington DE, but I would have to think that all Targets have them. They came in nice heathery colors, mine are sage green.

I actually have my eye on a pair of white yoga pants in the Lands End catalog that I'm thinking about. They look fabulous

The velvet ones I got at Kmart a couple years ago, they were in the Jacklyn Smith line. They are sooooo comfortable...

My son's girlfriend has been wearing this pair of leopard velvety pants around our house, she knows I like leopard and velvet. I love that girl...

What do you people have against shorts? I'm guessing this is a strictly no flip-flip crowd, as well.

Dude is from the West Coast...

Cooby, you still have those lucky purple velvet pants?

Benjamin Grimm

I'm just more comfortable in longs.

For footwear, I have my going-to-work shoes (currently that would be a pair of hiking boots that I bought in 2004) and a pair of sneakers. I also have a pair of dress shoes that I wear with a suit about once a year (if that often*) and an old pair of sneakers that I wear on the treadmill or when mowing the lawn.

And that's all that ever goes on my feet.

*I haven't worn a suit in over a year. I like to see if I can make it through a calendar year without wearing a tie, and I think 2004 was the most recent year I was able to pull that off. Unless I have to attend a wedding, a funeral, or a job interview, I don't wear a suit. So far so good in 2007.

Shorts almost all time indoors, even in winter. Slippers or socks in winter, nothing or flops in summer.

Out, either jeans or shorts. (Khaki pants only to work or to family functions.) Just hanging around, it'll be whatever T-shirt is on top of the pile; going out, a polo shirt (or sweatshirt over the above-mentioned T-shirt if it's cold).

Batty31

Cooby, did those jersey pants come in black? There are only two colors in my wardrobe...so I need black pants.

As for shorts, I don't wear them in public for 2 reasons:a)they are very unGoth b)my legs are so white they "glow"

Well that's rather rude of her!!!! :( If not, you could always order it online. They're always having free shipping deals.
