~~~+++%%%>>BLUE JEAN CHECK<<%%%+++~~~
Coobers thread got me thinking about how I'm "blue jean poor" right now, partly because there are so many styles, brands, price categories, etc., I don't know how to shop for them any more. So I thought I'd poll a group of Internet Met geeks to find out:
1. How many pairs of Blue jeans do you own?
2. What brands?
3. What distinguishing styles do you shop for, if any?
4. Where do you get them?
5. Are jeans priced at $100 + worth it in any way?
Thanks.
1. I currently own 3 but only wear 2. The third pair never fit, which is why you shouldn't buy jeans at National Wholesale Liquidators.
2. The pair I'm wearing now is Lucky. They've been my top jean for a while but they are beginning to fall apart. I think the others are Levis I'm not sure.
3. I try to avoid jeans that are pre-distressed by the manufactuer. How lame do you have to be to buy pre-ripped jeans?
4. My current duo are both Filene's purchases. I prolly should go to Macy's next
5. I don;t know.
While I have a lot of jeans I never wear the Levis anymore,most of my jeans now are from Old Navy,they have very comforatble stylish jeans..and not that expensive...
Old Navy Mens Jeans
So right now I would say I choose from about six pairs.
I tend to buy the button fly jeans over the zip...
Faded blue is my preference.
I just have Levi's. I don't think I've ever worn any other brand.
Re: ~~~+++%%%>>BLUE JEAN CHECK<<%%%+++~~~
1. How many pairs of Blue jeans do you own? Three
2. What brands? Two are Lucky, and the other is Banana Republic. If The Gap still sold Levi's I'd be wearing those.
3. What distinguishing styles do you shop for, if any? 'Straight Leg' but I don't really even know what the hell that means.
4. Where do you get them? Got 'em at the BR and Lucky stores in Westport.
5. Are jeans priced at $100 + worth it in any way? Well the Lucky's are at least $75.00 and I don't know what makes them worth that. They're comfy and they fit nice but so do Levi's right? The Bananas suck. Don't fit great. I only wear them if the others are indisposed.
Thanks. You're welcome
2 pair. Levi's and something else I forget what. The latter is ripped to shreds but I still like wearing them. $100 too much for jeans. Straight leg, loose fit. Got my last pair at the Levi's store.
1. I own 2 pairs that I wear, and a few that I have put aside for later. This will be answered in the next question
2. Pair one is a somewhat dressy pair of Woolrich. I need to point out that they are size 4. I feel compelled to tell you that because usually, I wear a size 6 or 7, and for some reason these are just oddly sized.
Pair two is a castoff pair of Levi's that my son bought when he started 12th grade (along with about 3 other pairs) and then suddenly decided he was wearing khakis every day instead. We are the same size.
Yes, they are men's, but they are comfy! And I don't really mind messing them up.
3. I like boot cut and a lot of the gals here wear them and if I get a job here where I can wear jeans everyday, I am going to ask them where they get theirs.
4. Pair one- Woolrich store up the street from my house
Pair two- out of my son's castoff pile but I think he got them at Walmart
5. No. Never had any, but I'll bet I'm right.
You can get Levi's at Sears or Penny's, I think.
1. How many pairs of Blue jeans do you own? Two. Ditched a third pair I had from a gazillion years ago but decided the button fly was OUT.
2. What brands? Old Navy.
3. What distinguishing styles do you shop for, if any? One pair is a bit baggy, the other the Mrs. picked out, also a bit baggy but has some built in fade on the front. Kinda American Idol-ish for my taste it works.
4. Where do you get them? Old Navy, Chelsea to be exact.
5. Are jeans priced at $100 + worth it in any way? If I buy a pair of $100 jeans, they better come with a happy ending from the salesgirl in the dressing room.
1. How many pairs of Blue jeans do you own? 4 pairs
2. What brands? 2 pair of Izod jeans and 1 pair of Levis and 1 pair of Wrangler. Izod definitely fit the best.
3. What distinguishing styles do you shop for, if any? Basic jeans with a zip fly.
4. Where do you get them? Izod store, Belks, or Target.
5. Are jeans priced at $100 + worth it in any way? Not unless they come with 2 shirts, a pair of socks, and a $20 off coupon toward a future purchase.
I think the durability of jeans has gone down significantly in the Wal-Mart era.
3 pairs, all Old Navy, but I generally wear the same pair over and over until they start to walk by themselves.
$100 is only good if that gets you four pairs of jeans, not one.
1. How many pairs of Blue jeans do you own?
Currently 3 that can be worn outside the house. There's prolly another pair or two kicking around that are starting to border on pornographic.
2. What brands?
Two Lee's, one Levi's IIRC
Lees fit better most of the time. With Levi's even my normally skinny self needs to buy the "Comfort Fit" (or whatever euphamism they're using to sell to overweight boomers) in order to get in them. I may still be thin but I ain't age-17 thin which is who their slim jeans seem to be built for.
3. What distinguishing styles do you shop for, if any?
Usually regular fit, sometimes "extra" (see above).
Other than that I'll try to get some semblence of variety amid blue jean sameness. My Levi's are '501 Button-fly', the others are zip. And I usually have one around that's a boot-cut for the odd times that I need it. Will sometimes buy a pre-faded pair but agree that the oh-so-chic pre beat-up stuff is stupid.
4. Where do you get them?
Either at a place like Bob's, or any one of a thousand places in lower Manhattan that have floor-to-ceiling stacks of numerous brands.
5. Are jeans priced at $100 + worth it in any way?
Not unless they come with Eva Longoria in them
I'll usually get 3-4 pairs for that amount.
None. I've only had one pair of blue jeans in the past 40 years, and that was because I needed it as my costume in a play.
They're uncomfortable and ugly. Give me chinos any day.
1. How many pairs of Blue jeans do you own?
Three, maybe four?
2. What brands?
They are all Gap except for one pair which are Mavi. A friend of mine recommended them and told me I would never wear Gap again. He was right. They are the most comfortable jeans I've ever worn. They're basically the only pair I wear now.
3. What distinguishing styles do you shop for, if any?
Wide leg, I guess, I just look for something roomy.
4. Where do you get them?
I got the Gap ones at the Gap. The Mavi's were some store at Roosevelt Field Mall that I can't remember.
5. Are jeans priced at $100 + worth it in any way?
I wouldn't know. A few years ago, I would have said no. In fact when my friend showed me the Mavi's, I said I couldn't imagine what would be so special about them to warrant them being twice as much as my current jeans. But I was wrong...after wearing them, I have to say they are worth it. $100 still seems expensive to me...but since I've never worn any, I'll reserve judgment.
1. How many pairs of Blue jeans do you own?
Four. One dark blue, one with a hole in the right knee (from wear, not design), and two regular
2. What brands?
I believe they're all Old Navy. Hate going into those stores, but the jeans are well made and affordable.
3. What distinguishing styles do you shop for, if any?
Roomy.
4. Where do you get them?
See #2.
5. Are jeans priced at $100 + worth it in any way?
To me, paying that much defeats the purpose of buying jeans.
1. How many pairs of Blue jeans do you own?
A few, but only two that have stayed in rotation.
2. What brands?
Both Levi's 569, "Loose Straight". I've had them over a year and I completely dig them, but they're just a little too big for me, even more so when I wear them a few times without a wash.
3. What distinguishing styles do you shop for, if any?
A little roomy, but I think I went overboard. They seemed perfect at the store.
4. Where do you get them?
At a place called Kohl's. I thought it was a home supply store, but I left with jeans. They have them for $29.99 online which is about what I paid at the Seal Beach store.
5. Are jeans priced at $100 + worth it in any way?
Never even come close to that.
Re: ~~~+++%%%>>BLUE JEAN CHECK<<%%%+++~~~
1. How many pairs of Blue jeans do you own?
Zero. I have one pair of black jeans.
2. What brands?
I think it's from LL Bean.
3. What distinguishing styles do you shop for, if any?
Nothing really, but this pair has flannel lining which I never had before. I don't like the way that denim clings to my legs so this makes a big difference.
4. Where do you get them?
Online.
5. Are jeans priced at $100 + worth it in any way?
Dear God no!
Levi's 505's; light blue, dark blue, and black - regular fit, and a little loose.
I hate tight pants and shorts, I need room to roam.
I never buy them if they're not on sale because eventually someone will
have 'em for $20 and I'm cheap about some things.
I've never owned anything resembling designer jeans, even in the disco era.
Re: ~~~+++%%%>>BLUE JEAN CHECK<<%%%+++~~~
1. How many pairs of Blue jeans do you own?
i have too many pairs of most clothes. i'd have to double check, but i think i may have at least 6-7 pairs of blue jeans, and one dark gray pair of jeans that is irrelevant to this discussion. actually, i need to recount. i just retired a pair to yardwork-duty, and have another pair of dedicated work-duty jeans as well, since my old pair has gotten far too beat up...
2. What brands?
express (men), banana republic, american eagle, a gray pair from aeropostale, i think, and the dedicated levi's jeans for work-related trips to deserts and other unfriendly environments.
3. What distinguishing styles do you shop for, if any?
a basic requirement is roomy legs. i have a lot of muscle in my legs, and cannot get by with even regular fit. so loose fit is a must. i also prefer a softer denim, which is why i typically don't go with the usual lee or levis. a darker wash helps too - i hate blue! jeans - but too much whiskering and what not.
4. Where do you get them?
typically at the store that bears the name.
5. Are jeans priced at $100 + worth it in any way?
not in my estimation. $30-40 is a good range that mixes durability and feel. less expensive and you sacrifice one or the other. i liked old navy jeans until i realized that they would wear out in about a year or two for me. granted, i've never tried out triple-digit denim, but have likewise never felt myself so compelled.
Thanks.
you're quite welcome.
Bless you.
Of all the things I may look back on in regret, owning/wearing those ugly-assed jeans isn't one of them.
1. How many pairs of Blue jeans do you own? 9. 7 that fit.
2. What brands? Levis
3. What distinguishing styles do you shop for, if any? 501s or 505s
4. Where do you get them? Sears (probably the only thing I buy there except car batteries), Army Navy, or those semi-makeshift jeans stores you see on Broadway
5. Are jeans priced at $100 + worth it in any way? I seriously think we are in the midst of another designer jean era. I lived through one already, and it wasn't pretty.
