Laptop Recommendations

My rebuilt Thinkpad T23 that isn't worth fixing (it will cost $430 bucks to fix). My budget is under 1,000...any laptop recommendations? I was thinking of getting another Thinkpad (lower end model) but I was wondering if anyone else had any recommendations. I do not do any gaming Basically I just surf the web, listen to music and download pictures from my digital camera..so I really don't need anything with a ton of features.

Our office has installed 20 new Dell work stations in the past 2 years and have not had a bit of trouble. My home work station is a 4-5 year old Dell that has neverr given me a bit of trouble, though the hard drive is stuffed full of music and digital photos which is slowing the system down some. My wife has a 2 year old Dell Insipiron laptop that has been great. I guess you could say that we have had great dependability with Dell computers, so I have seen no need to look elsewhere. Dell has new laptops starting for as little as $549 available online right now.

There are a lot of good computers available out there so it shouldn't be too tough to find one that suits your needs at a price you can live with.

My laptop weighs a half-million pounds, which drives me nuts. I have a nice wide screen, but I'd trade it for a smaller one if it was lighter. It's really a work computer, though, and being free, I can't complain too much.

I've bought (or rather shopped for and authorized) prolly a hunded computers
over the last half dozen years or so and I thnk Dell always seems to give you
more bang for your buck. Take any name brand system description and go online
to the Dell site and you'll get more memory, better video, bigger hard drive, etc.

I'll endorse KC's position. I just got a new Dell Latitude D620, and I'm logging on even when I have nothing to do on the computer. It's a neat machine.

Thanks for the recs, everyone. I went shopping tonight and was ignored by sales reps. I am going to look online at Dells next. I am using my old laptop moment...hopefully I'll find something soon.

What's your secret? Usually I go into a computer/electronic store and I have to beat off the smarmy sales staff like flies?

Perhaps it was my accessories today? Bat earrings, bat necklace, skull and crossbones bracelet??? Perhaps they were afraid of me??

I think sales associates are trained to avoid goths.

Bought a Mac Book two years ago and liked it so much they let me trade it up for a Powerbook. I'm so done with windows-based operating systems junk.

Goth kids in their Punisher shirts are ruining the movement's rep by harrassing Dagwood.
