Feet.

It always seemed to me that east coasters generally have an aversion to open-toed shoes, flip-flops, any kind of shoe wear exposing the foot, and maybe even an aversion to the foot itself.

In the other thread, not too many peeps fessed up to even owning a pair of flops, let alone wearing them at home or otherwise.

I live on the beach so it's obviously a bit different here, but flip-flops and the like are everywhere - home, out at places like the supermarket, even work. And I happily go along.

So who amongst you owns foot-exposing shoe wear, and when and where are the places you'd wear them?

Who here thinks flip-flops and the like are for pool/beach only?

Who here has some kind of foot phobia and thinks the toe ain't for show?

I only expose my toes at the beach. And I'm rarely at the beach.

No phobia, though. Just ain't my style. Sneakers are my footwear of choice.

A transplanted New Yorker who now lives in Nor Cal, I embrace sandals and flip-flops here but could NEVER imagine wearing them on a subway.

Flip flops are huge around here. My kids live in their Rainbows. My wife wears sandals of every variety (dressy, casual, heels, wedges, flats). I personally prefer my Timberland dock shoes or leather tennis shoes.

I've heard that before. Is that because you don't want to get stepped on? Would make sense to me.

It's cold and wet here. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It builds character.

I pretty much only wear them at the beach or at a pool and very occasionally in the neighborhood over the summer. My daughter lives in them, my wife wears sandals all summer.

I love flip flops and it seems like suddenly you can get a pair for every outfit. I wear them a lot too, I have three really nice pairs and a shabby pair (which I have on right now) that I can't bring myself to get rid of.

i'm trying to wear my flip-flops more. i think that it will be better for my feet to breathe a bit, and not be trapped inside my shoes and sneakers all the time.

granted, i don't think my wife likes when i do. i do not have the prettiest of feet, being a runner and all. and the black toenail(s) seem to be a turnoff to people.

but i am trying to wear em around the house, and selectively outside in the real world.

Getting stepped on is the least of my concerns in the subway. It's the filth

That actually is one reason why I hesitate to wear mine to work--our bathrooms are horrendous and as Yancy and I once discussed, I flush with my foot.

I hate the thong thingie in between the toe. Very uncomfortable. I have back problems and need a more supportive shoe, so I stick with closed shoes.

Cooby, I flush the toliet at work using an additional piece of toliet paper which I quickly drop in so it goes down.

I oft see young wimmins commuting in them, and cursing as they stub their toes.

My boss wears flops pretty much every day. There was a minor scandal a year or two back when the white house hosted a women's NCAA champion team and 40% of them wore variations on the flip flop.

Living in the Jersey shore area, the damn things are everywhere, like foamy, thong-toed rats.

I was never a fan, partially for the reasons Batty talked about. Don't mind the big biblical-type sandals though. Makes every step feel like a miniature epic. Still can't walk on water, though.

Straight flip-flops I can't wear, for the between-the-toe thing that Batty mentioned.

But I wear sandals all summer. I'd wear them to the office if I could.
