Dickshot is with his family in Miami, but I'm sure, if he we're here, he'd be polling you about your favorite Howard Jones single.

Oh, I'm sure there are acts from other eras and genres with notable but limited legacies that we need to poll. How about America? Gerry and the Pacemakers? Gin Blossoms? The Commodores? Run DMfuckinC!

But I'm similarly sure that Dickshot wouldn't want to leave the techno eighties behind without revisiting the man who sacrificed his hairline for our moussing entertainment. Oh, you may think, it's just gimmicky eighties technopop. I'm going to ask you to bend your brain, to see both sides, and to throw off your mental chains

"Life In One Day" --- crappy visuals from Top of the Pops

"Like to Get to Know You Well" --- the favorite of the Better Off Dead crowd.

"Look Mama" --- I met Howard's mother. She didn't think I was very funny.

"New Song" --- apologizing in advance for the mime action

"No One Is to Blame" (so we'll blame Armando)

"Things Can Only Get Better" --- way to choose a title that can thrown back at you by critics. Oh, and more mime action here.

"What Is Love?" Check him out singing at the Parisian art nouveau metro stop.

Singles that didn't really contribute to his legacy and so were discluded:

  • "You Know I Love You... Don't You?"

  • "The Prisoner" (sounded like Van Halen to me)

  • "Everlasting Love" (something of a hit, but forgettable suck nonetheless)

Thanks Edgy...I was jonesin' for my Friday poll...

I blame Armando. He's the hardest thrower but he's not allowed to win.

I can agree that the weekly music polls can be fun, but what makes every one of them so self-titled bloody important?

Let us be the judge of that.

For most of the artists so far, all I have is dynamic ennui.

Finally, one of these polls that I care enough about to vote in. I LOVE "No One Is To Blame." Hands-down winner, don't even need to listen to the others.

I was thinking of "doing" Howard Jones in fact.

He's so cute in his scarves and stuff.

I'm going with "New Song" although at the height of Howard-mania, I probably was a "What is Love" guy.

New Song has those cool fake handclaps and a real organ.

Who on Earth voted for "Know You Well"?

I'll go with "Things Can Only Get Better",how in the name of Howard Jones did I miss this poll before.

I swung between "New Song" and "What Is Love?" going eventually for the former. Now I feel sad that the latter has no votes. I think Ms. Edgy gave a non-binding vote to it, however. Meanwhile, I'm still not certain "New Song" isn't a naked ripoff of "Solsbury Hill."

I was tooling around the back pages and found that this needs a tiebreaker.

And here I thought this was about Howard Johnson, the world's greatest tuba player (on the far left).

That's him in the middle:

And here on the left:

Two new votes slam this into the win column for "No One Is to Blame."

It's a pretty ballad, but he doesn't know where to take it. Those synth block chords at the end of the refrain are just the biggest copout.

I was revisiting some of these because I thought, if I could find all the polls, we could creat the actual mix tape as an iTunes iMix and see how it came out.
