Hope Sosa brings his A game, not a very intimidating Mets team today.

I'll take a rally under any name today.

Livan arguing with Stephen Drew is a bonus.

Smith backing a lefty off the plate with his slinging sidearm slider that ran at the hitter and then back over the plate for a called strike three as Callaspo was bailing.

Wow!

Can we keep this guy when Valentin comes back?

Ouch. One out, one on, Smith thinks he has a K-CS DP, when it's actually ball four. Two on, one out.

Not ideal.

Great win. Anytime you can play more backups than starters and get a victory, it's almost like stealing a game.

Johnnie called it last night when he said Gotay was hitting the ball hard and deserved a start. He came through with 3 hits including the 3-run homer to pretty much put the game away.

I was at this game, my first Shea visit of 2007. And just now, two days later, I realized that I witnessed Mets history, sort of.

Prior to the start of the game, the Mets had played 28 games at Shea this season. That means that there were 53 home games remaining, plus another 81 in 2008 equals 134 remaining (regular-season) games at Shea Stadium before the move to Citi Field.

Going into Saturday's game, the Mets had an all-time record of 1,786 wins and 1,652 losses at Shea since 1964. If they had lost all 134 remaining games, they'd end up at 1,786 and 1,786.

So by winning on Saturday, the Mets clinched a winning record at Shea Stadium.

It's funny. When sitting in the stands that day, looking out at the construction site beyond the outfield wall, I wondered if the Mets had clinched that winning record yet. It's strange that the thought occurred to me on the very day that they would get it done.

Excellent.

You should alert the Mets media department. It should be noted on air.

Seriously, you should.
Facts like that one - or the one about the list of '1-game only' Mets - would be stuff that Gary Cohen (or Howie Rose, or say Adam Rubin) would eat up IMHO.
I've fed columnists little tid-bits before and they've been happy to use them and even credit you.
