Not for nothing but I like that Chavvy gets a day off too, especially against a lefty.

1-2-3 inning - Mets to bat.

With each game, it seems the lineup is starting to come back together. It seems like forever since the starting line up has been intact.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 05:21 PM

Mets go easy in their half but did hit the ball well.
0-0.-- Mets in the lead.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 05:23 PM

Beltran on his horse.

lol-thnx.

Phils threatening in the 3rd, with back 2 back hits by Rollins and Victotino(double).
And Utley drives em both in.

ira, no offense, but I prefer Zvon's updates.

Willets Point

Five-inning Tommy might not make it out of the third.
Fuckin' Burrell could break this open.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 05:54 PM

Phils announcer on the play Reyes made on Rollins and how much he was able to get on the lil flip throw.
"...he's just different."

Glavine gets out of it.
Score 2-2, Mets lead.

It must have flown into the loge section on that K.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 05 2007 05:56 PM

Or he could walk back to the Phillies dugout in abject humiliation, grab his glove and head out to his position.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 05 2007 06:02 PM

Looking for a 2-out RBI from Wright.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 06:03 PM

Ugh---
Beltraan had 3rd stole big BIG.
But going with 2 strikes on Delgado--hmmm...I dont like that. No, not at all.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 05 2007 06:05 PM

I'm still looking as Wright goes down swinging to end the third.

Talk about walking back to the dugout in abject humiliation.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 06:16 PM

Goodly amount of fashion expressive Phillys phans in the stands.
Has SNY shown the one dressed like a centurian?
He must have brass ones.

Willets Point
Jun 05 2007 06:17 PM

The part of Citifield behind centerfield is looking more and more like the guard's tower at a prison each day.

Willets Point

Glavine works on getting back some of the runs he coughed up.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 05 2007 06:30 PM

Well, it's up to Carlos now.

The other Carlos.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 05 2007 06:31 PM

Damn!

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 06:32 PM

2 on and one out for Beltraan and Delgado but they cant gEtErDuN.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 06:34 PM

I fear Utley just as much as I fear Howard.
He cannot reach here.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
He crushes a double off the wall.
eyeeeecurumba.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 06:36 PM

EXCELLENT pitch to Howard by Glavine, and he cheaply pops it up.
Blahrrel up.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 06:40 PM

whoa...what a break there.

Blahrrell continues to prove my point that he is an idiot.
:)

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 06:41 PM

reads like this>
Rowand singled to right, Utley to third, Burrell out at third advancing on throw.

Mets dodge a bullet there. :)

Rockin' Doc
Jun 05 2007 06:42 PM

Glavine gets out of the inning unscathed with a little help from Pat Burrell.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 06:52 PM

2-2 after 6.
And yes, the Mets have the lead.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 05 2007 06:57 PM

Glavine reminds Rollins of the eighth commandment.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 07:03 PM

93 pitches so Tommys done.

Gotay PHs and Ks.

Reyes follows with a bloop single to right.
Go Reyes go.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 07:05 PM

HA!
Howd that happen?

Reyes steals 2nd and--WHAT!

that was NOT a foul ball!

whoops--replay shows it was.
That pitch hit everything possible, the bat, the catchers two hands, and the ump.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 05 2007 07:06 PM

I'd rather it hit the picnic area bleachers.

Things I've hated about this game so far (in order of how much I hate them).

1. Score twice in the second, LoDuca is on 2nd with no outs, AND STAYS THERE. Popup by BJ unacceptable there.

2. Reyes bunting Glavine over to second. Stupid. He's impossible almost to double up, why not take a shot at a triple instead?

3. 0 on, 2 out, THEN the Phils score twice.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 05 2007 07:10 PM

I have a new No. 1.

I hear ya Johnny,....and I feel your pain.

Reyes does steal 2nd but then is picked off 2nd after Easley draws a walk.
Oy.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 05 2007 07:11 PM

It's time for the Carloses to come through this time.

Damn it Reyes. Jose gets picked off second.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 05 2007 07:13 PM

Reyes needs to get his head out of his ass ... NOW!!!!

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 07:14 PM

Beltraan gets under it by a smidgeon.
Sends Blahrrell to the wall in left.
Gah.

2-2, after 7 complete.

This, even with all the "gahs" , is a really good game.

Good thing the Mets have the lead.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 05 2007 07:18 PM

Is it just me, or does seeing Schoeneweis in the game make anyone else nervous?

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 07:18 PM

I just closed my eyes and imagined Utley as the Mets 2nd baseman, with Delgado,Reyes,Wright, manning the infield, and my head exploded.

Chase walks.
Howard up.

Rockin' Doc wrote:

If he was that DP, 3-6, should calm him down.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 07:36 PM

Mets come up in the 9th leading with the scored tied 2-2 and will have to plate a run to technically win the ballgame, due to those silly rules of baseball.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 05 2007 07:36 PM

Why waste Endy here?

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 05 2007 07:41 PM

Bunting is for losers. How many times will we prove it tonight?

More importantly waste Gomez there! WHATS THAT KID THINKIN!
GAH!

WOW!

BIG error by Rowand!

Reyes will bat with PH Newhan on 2nd.
They will walk Reyes.
Its all Easley.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 05 2007 07:42 PM

Hopefully Reyes won't try and bunt one of these intentional-walk pitches.

Here comes Easley, presumably, to buunt.

Carlos Beltran on bunt-deck.

Nice 10th.

Does this mean Heilman is De-Mota-ed?

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 07:54 PM
Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Jun 05 2007 07:56 PM

Mota on for the 10th...Wags practically went unnoticed.
Pitched a fine 9th aside from the Rowand double.

Mota has a 1-2-3 10th, only Victorino getting good wood on him for the deep fly to center.

The heart of the lineup for the Mets in the 10th.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 05 2007 07:54 PM

It's time for the Mets to put an end to this game.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 07:55 PM

Let us unite and assemble.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 08:05 PM

BIG 2 strike steal of 2nd by Wright.

But LoDuke pops out.
Gah!

OHHHH NOEEEES> UTLEY GOES YARD!

Ryan Howard... most smashed single ever?

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 05 2007 08:11 PM

Fear not -- Willie must have a plan to bunt us back into it.

I was just thinking the same thing!

Zvon

Was that the blind Feliciano on the mound?

Howard hurts the baseball with a line smack off the wall in right.

I could hear that ball screammmmmmmmm .

Ms. Edgy: "What's that horrible song they're playing?"

Batty31
Jun 05 2007 08:16 PM

Extra digits Alfonseca warming up....we have a chance.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 05 2007 08:18 PM

We need a triple play pretty f-ing badly

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 08:23 PM

Nunez with a 10 pitch at-bat then he squirts a single to left.
This one is gettin away from us.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 08:25 PM

BIG DP!

6-2-3

Edgy DC
Jun 05 2007 08:25 PM

The old 6-2-3 keeps this one within the realm of the possible.

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 08:26 PM

Okay.
Now its time for them to play Journeys "Dont Stop Believin".

Kick out the jams, motherfuckers !
Yeah! I, I, I, I, I'm gonna
I'm gonna kick 'em out ! Yeah !

Well I feel pretty good
And I guess that I could get crazy, now baby
'Cause we all got in tune
And when the dressing room got hazy, now baby

I know how you want it, child
Hot, quick and tight
The girls can't stand it
When you're doin' it right
Let me up on the stand
And let me kick out the jams!
Yes, kick out the jams
I want to kick'em out!

Yes I'm starting to sweat
You know my shirt's all wet
What a feeling!
In the sound that abounds
And resounds and rebounds
Off the ceiling

You gotta have it, baby
You can't do without
When you get that feeling
You gotta sock'em out
Put that mike in my hand
And let me kick out the jam
Yes ! Kick out the jams
I want to kick'em out!
( guitar )

So you got to give it up
You know you can't get enough Miss Mackenzie
Cause it gets in your brain
It drives you insane
With the frenzy

The wigglin' guitars girl
The crash of the drums
Make you wanna keep-a-rockin'
Till the morning comes

Let me be who i am
And let me kick out the jam
Yes, kick out the jams
I done kicked em out !!!

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 08:34 PM

Edgy DC

Offense needed.

Man, NOW!

Zvon
Jun 05 2007 08:47 PM

So we really need to take the next 2, imo.
Cant let these Phils even THINK they can climb back into this race.
Cuz they cant.

Aside from Hamels they just dont have the arms.

If they are gonna be just a thorn in the Mets side, as they have other NY winning seasons, Ill have to hear this everytime I go out in my Met hat or jacket.

So if they need motivation, please somebody impart this to them.
Zvon does not wanna have to hear it.

From this IGT:
I don't think Heilman is getting demoted. Schoenweis hadn't pitched in a week; Mota since Friday, but Heilman threw 2 innings on Sunday. (The good outings for both were of course encouraging).

Agree that the timing of the Endy PH seemed very strange.

From Shea:
Plenty of Philly fans in the stands but nothing too annoying, fortunately.

The Journey song was part of the ongoing music for the evening -- anything that had "city" in the title/lyrics, as it was "Citi Employee Night at Shea" which was endlessly promoted all night. (Other song choices included We Built this City, Summer in the City, You Belong to the City, etc etc.). My top-5 list of City songs (City of Blinding Lights - U2, Living for the City - Stevie Wonder, In the City - The Jam, My City of Ruins - Springsteen, and My City Was Gone - Pretenders) went unplayed. Coincidence?

Glavine needs to remember that unless he can field it cleanly, he's got to let those balls go through and let the 2B/SS get them. That's what got the Phils 3rd inning rally going.

Schoenweis pitched around Utley in the 8th with nobody on (granted, there was one out). I don't really have a problem with Feliciano challenging him, but...just sayin.

Johnson made a nice play on Rowand's double in the 9th. His throw was in plenty of time, not sure what happened on the slide/if/how Easley botched it.

We played sloppy. We need to remember how to properly execute a rundown.

This loss seems worse than the Zito/Webb losses (good pitchers) or even the Sunday game. Today we really shoulda won.

Elster88
Jun 06 2007 05:18 AM

Throw everything else out the window and I think one thing causes the loss:

Beltran/Delgado combined 0 for 9

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 06 2007 05:24 AM

No issue with Easley's handling of the throw: It just short-hopped him and required that extra motion.

Not saying our offense sucks bhmc but we've scored 2 runs or fewer 3 of our last 4 games.

Edgy DC
Jun 06 2007 05:48 AM

"We Built this City"

Awful

"Summer in the City"

Pretty OK.

"You Belong to the City"

Kill me now.

The game within the game between Moyer and Reyes in the seventh was fascinating,I hope Reyes learned a lesson there though,Moyer said afterwards that he was surprised that it worked, he was just showing Reyes something and it caught him.
