How many starts does Newhan get before we stop trying to jump-start him like Valentin and concede he's just going to suck all year?

Kid Carsey
Jun 06 2007 04:54 PM

Feels like Alou has been coming back tomorrow for a good week now.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 06 2007 05:02 PM

I don't mind giving bench lefties a chance to knock around a stiff like Eaton.

All that blue is just beautiful.

The white tops at home are almost not worth it when the black hats get worn and the black undershirts and hose follow.

Why not just take it all the way and kill the black drop-shadow on the home white?

TransMonk
Jun 06 2007 05:24 PM

Wow, Newhan's not completely worthless.

I like the blues as well. I don't mind the black drop shadow for depth though...makes the blue pop a little more.

Endy spoils Reyes' walk by hitting into a DP in the 1st.

Anytime Willie wants to try PLD back in the 2 hole will be fine by me.

No score after 1.

Kid Carsey
Jun 06 2007 05:35 PM

Is it me, or do the Mets suffer from a bout with Shea warning track power
this year. I'm sure some of it will improve when the heat and humidity gets
here but there seems to be a lot of near misses to me.

Maybe I have selective memory.

The Mets offense is really struggling. The pitchers continue to pitch well most games, but the offense just can't seem to score any runs for them after Green went down.

I dig the Goat.

TransMonk
Jun 06 2007 06:14 PM

No score thru 3 and a half.

Both teams have combined to get the leadoff man on in 5 out of 7 chances...yet no runs.

Do I have good timing or waaahat!

Jun 06 2007 06:22 PM

Had Eaton been pitching as well as current stats indicate? Have his pitches looked good?
(up till those last 2 shots, i mean)

Im puzzled.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 06 2007 06:27 PM

Eaton almost always looks good against us.

Delgado = old black and slow.

LMAO.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 06 2007 06:35 PM

Looks to me as if The Goat coulda made that play by running a few steps behind him rather than trying an impossible vertical leap.

Zvon
Jun 06 2007 06:36 PM

whos slower than old pappy Dadgado?

Answer: Barajas.

And Chavez's bumble just allowed him to get to third.

Zvon
Jun 06 2007 06:39 PM

ooooo, Victorino makes it close.
These Phils are just playin with more vitality.
Didnt see the 1st three innings but they are playin hungry.
They wanna eat up my Metsies.

Heilman = FAIL!@#$%^&*(

Jun 06 2007 07:23 PM

I love the Mets. I love all things Mets. I love everybody that wears a Mets uniform. But I haven't disliked any Met as much as I dislike Heilman. I root for him and will not boo him, but they could trade him tomorrow for a AA pitcher and I would be happy.

Error on a 15-foot hit + lucky bloop double = We will tie this game.

This was the Phillies station's trivia question:

Name the two opposing players who have hit the most Shea Stadium homeruns.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 06 2007 07:31 PM

Well.

Enormous turn for N.D. here.

I cordially invite Geary to continue throwing the breaking ball.

Well that sucks.

no need. He can limp off into the sunset.

I think that inning actually made me sick.

Jun 06 2007 07:37 PM

And he pulls up lame to boot. Gotay has to be moving on Franco's hit...has to.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 06 2007 07:38 PM

This team is playing horrifically. We didn't even deserve to be having a rally.

I agree and my brother and I are arguing about this now. I say he had to go, if not on contact, as soon as he see's Howard stretchin out to dive.
I was appalled he didnt score there.
My bro says he woulda been a dead duck.

Johnny Dickshot

It's possible the Goat thought the ball was caught at first.

If you mean was it a lineshot in the air, no--it was clearly a ground ball off the bat.
Oy.

Schoenweis might be Omar's one move that backfires the most. Lima, Baldwin and Park were all guys just there for insurance. But Schoenweis has a bleeping three-year contract. He's been terrible.

Half right, Schmidt is correct.
The other guy played for the other PA team :)

(FYI, I thought Burrell and Chipper)

woohoo.
Almost lightens my mood that JD got that.
And it takes ALOT to get me in a bad mood.
Cuz this is the Phils.....they suck.

And im having a HORRIBLE day in fantasy baseball.

Zvon
Jun 06 2007 08:16 PM

Well, even if the Mets win tomorrow Ill still have to hear it.
UGH.
Horrible. Utterly horrible.
Woe is me :(

Zvon, I forgot you live in sorta Phillie country too, don't you?

I am already anticipating a visit from my co worker Jason...who not only teases me when the Mets lose, but also because my fantasy team sucks.

lol.

Yep--South Jersey near A.C.

And Comcast here, in their infinite wisdom, removed WPIX from the basic cable package and are holding it hostage until I pay monthly for their digital package.
And what REALLY galls me is they put absolutely NOTHING on that channel in its place.

Writing that did not help my mood at all.
Grrrrrr.

The offense is starting to remind me of the pathetic noffense of earlier this millenium. This past week if the pitchers give up more than 2 runs, they are almost assured of losing. One of the starting outfielders have to get healthy and soon.

At least the Marlins beat the Braves so they didn't make up any ground.

Gwreck
Jun 06 2007 09:40 PM

I went. 4th straight game at Shea that I've gone to that they've lost. Hasn't happened any time in the last 10 years.

Runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs and nobody scores? Totally unacceptable.

I still don't blame Heilman, not for tonight, or for Molina, or for the other few big homers. It was unfortunate, but with Eaton pitching there was no excuse for the offense to again not show up. Heilman might be struggling a little but he's getting a terrible rap lately. The hatred is unwarranted.

Scapegoating is bad.

I went to see the Nats this evening. Creepy fans were whooping it up for Christian Guzman, who they wanted flayed alive his first two years here.

If ND will be out for awhile, and Moises won't be back soon, how about signing Steve Finley (cut by Colorado earlier in the week) to fill the ND role? He's better than Rick Ledee (wow, there's an endorsement!). Plus, he's 42 so he'll fit right in.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 07 2007 05:52 AM

I still say they should sign Darryl Strawberry. He can announce it himself from the press box at Shea.

Bring back Fran Healy to play the Suzyn Waldman role.

Centerfield
Jun 07 2007 07:56 AM

I can't figure out why Gotay is not running on contact there. The infield was back, there were runners on 2nd and 3rd. If they play the infield back, you MUST make them throw you out at home. And even if you do, you still have 1st and 3rd with one out. And then they would have had to pitch to Reyes.

That is a bad, bad job by Willie not to have him moving on contact. It's the same mistake Bobby made in Game 1 of the 2000 WS.

HahnSolo
Jun 07 2007 08:00 AM

Plus, didn't Howard have to semi-dive, or at least make a big stretch to get the ball? He has to score the tying run there.

Centerfield
Jun 07 2007 08:04 AM

Howard not only dove, he took a half-hour to get his elephant-like body off the ground.

Frayed Knot
Jun 07 2007 08:19 AM

The thing about going on contact there is that there's very little downside.
By staying it's 2nd & 3rd -- but by going, even if you're thrown out, it's still 1st & 3rd with the same # of outs.

What often happens there is that the runner is free to go unless it's a come-backer or hard-hit to a corner infielder and I suspect what happened is that Gotay froze waiting to see if it would get by Howard and then figured it was too late to re-start again. We all know that Newhan wasn't waiting around so I don't think that the 'wait til it gets through' order was on.
