So the A's went 0 for their first 27, with no walks, in a nine-inning game that they lose 1-0, but there's no no-hitter. Has that ever happened before?

On May 26, 1959 Harvey Haddix pitched 12 perfect innings for the Pittsburgh Pirates against the Milwaukee Braves. He lost the perfect game on an error by Pittsburgh third baseman Ron Hoak. The resultant runner then scored when Milwaukee collected their lone hit, a double by Joe Adcock. The resulting run cost Haddix the shutout and the game despite his having pitched one of the finest games in major league baseball history.
