Who's player A and who's player B? They both play adequate-if-not-spectacular defense.

Player B is Delgado.

player a is pat burrell.

Exactly.

How long is a slump a slump, and at what point does someone slip from elite status into being an good-but-not-spectacular player? I think Delgado's quickly reaching that point.

i think delgado's defense is a wee bit better than burrell's...

Who is Player C and why does everyone think he's such hot shit?

My first guess is Kenji Johjima, because I know he hasn't walked a lot this year, but I don't see how he fits the discussion.

It's Pudge Rodriguez, who gets such a nauseating amount of booth-humping for such a limited output.

The difference between Delgado and Burrell is that this season-to-date is a total outlier for Carlos yet part of a years-long trend for Burrell so, while they might look similar for the past 2 months, Carlos still has a better track record to fall back on.

And if this is a start of a decline for Delgado and therefore a sampling of what's going to be his new norm ... well then we're going to have a very expensive mediocre 1Bman for the next year and a half.

last year was his lowest BA in a REALLY long time (rookie season?). he needs to get his numbers up above last years numbers, and still has close to 4 months to do it. The hope is, he'll eventually come around. i haven't given up on him yet.

Wright's 3-run homer yesterday was big but I sorta knew there would be trouble when Delgado failed to get the cookie in from 3rd with 1 out there. How many of those situations has he completely biffed this year?

Does that verb come from DEATH OF A SALESMAN?

I know it as a frisbee term. As in, "I totally biffed that hammer. Can I have some more pot now?"

Re: Player A/Player B

Speaking of player comparisons, I wonder how the Yanqui fans - many of whom were foaming at the mouth at an early-season rumor of an A-Rod for Joe Crede trade - would feel about it right about now:
