IGT - Friday Night at the Fights (NYM-v-NYY) 6/15/07

Frayed Knot
Jun 15 2007 02:05 PM

Met Lineup:

Reyes - SS
Beltran - CF
Wright - 3B
Delgado - DH
LoDuca - C
Green - RF
Valentin - 2B
Franco - 1B
Gomez - LF

Johnny Dickshot

So Wright has now usurped both Carlos' positions. It's a shame he can't hit 3rd and 4th tonight.

Let's destroy this old loser.

Centerfield
Jun 15 2007 02:13 PM

I mighta DH'ed with Easley tonight the way he handles fastballs.

iramets
Jun 15 2007 02:24 PM

WWSB specifically denied he'd bat Beltran #2 to M & MD today.

I can't state it categorically as an absolute denial, because I wasn't making a transript or paying attention to how he worded things, but it was a direct answer to a direct question.

Frayed Knot
Jun 15 2007 02:36 PM

I heard (most of) that interview and don't remember him ruling anything out.
M&MD specifically suggested it and he gave the standard non-committal "considering several possibilities" angle.

Edgy DC
Jun 15 2007 02:51 PM

Are you saying ira is clueless or a liar?

iramets
Jun 15 2007 04:27 PM

I hope he's saying "clueless" because I admit i don;t have a transcript, just a memory of a direct question, and a "No" answer. If you can produce a transcript, maybe you'll get him saying something like "No, for now, Carlos has been hitting well in the middle of the order..." and take that as "now" = "2 PM"

I'm positive he poo-poo'ed the idea of the #2 hitter being very important.

I'll see if there's a transcript on line.

Frayed Knot
Jun 15 2007 04:34 PM

No need, they just replayed it:

To the question about who would be in the 2-slot:
- I'm going to think about it some more, not sure what I'll do yet

To a question about putting LoDuca at #2:
- pretty much shot that down immediately, especially MadDog's thought that PLD at the top would "energize the lineup"

To Francesa's suggestion about putting Beltran there:
- You may wind up looking smart before the night is over

"Are you saying ira is clueless or a liar?"

We report, you decide

iramets

The verdict is in. I'm clueless. It sounds like WWSB hinted that he would bat Beltran 2

They have a podcast. http://www.wfan.com/

Mike: "Far be it for me to make your lineup out for ya, but I like to see Beltran bat second a little bit."

[cackling]

WWSB: "One of you guys might look smart before the day's over"

I heard that as an insult, not a compliment, more like "One of you guys might have a smart idea some day," so I misinterpreted it.

Let's open with a bunt. Get Roger to do some cardio.

One thing I find that I don't like about Willie is his sarcastic nature in interviews,he can be especially snarky in the post-game,often answering a question with a smart ass question of his own.

LETS GO METS...

That's the exact thing Chris Duffy of the Pirates did on Saturday, but he was thrown out by a step

DAMMIT Ollie throw strikes.

Phelps makes another out in a big spot.

and of course there's no guarantee the umps'd get that right...

Of course it wasn't gonna be a HR. Cairo is incapable of that kinda distance.

They replayed this interview tonight. What WWSB denied was hitting LoDuca 2nd when Dog asked him. Fatcessa then suggested he'd like to see Beltran 2nd. Willie said, "One of you might be right."

seawolf17
Jun 15 2007 06:45 PM

With the exception of C-Delgado, who is looking more like Wilson Delgado at the plate, they're looking a LOT more alive tonight.

seawolf17
Jun 15 2007 06:47 PM

Gary: It'll be interesting to see what Clemens does with Delgado here. 3-1, but he's slumping, and has a righty on deck.

Me: Just throw strikes; he sucks.

Roger: /throws strike two

Me: See?

Roger: /throws strike three

Carlos: /leaves bat on shoulder

Me: (sigh)

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 15 2007 06:47 PM

Wilson Delgado was a ball-in-play guy.

DocTee

Mr Clemens, it's been a pleasure bunting on you.

Does that mean he's relieving himself on the mound? Gross.

Yankee announcers saying Reyes was out, even as the slo-mo says otherwise.

seawolf17
Jun 15 2007 07:21 PM

Are Carlos Beltran's legs broken? He was jogging down the line too. Am I getting old? RUN OUT EVERY FUCKING BALL.

seawolf17
Jun 15 2007 07:30 PM

Ronnie talking about comparing Gomez to Lonnie Smith... he told a story about one game where Lonnie got on base three times against him, and he picked him off all three times.

Not totally correct, but Ronnie was close: on 9/22/83, Ronnie picked him off twice: off second in the first inning and off first in the third.

Edgy DC
Jun 15 2007 07:30 PM

I'm sorry. Miguel Cairo has no homers, two RBI, and a .281 (now .278 OBP) and he's the reason they're hot?!

seawolf17
Jun 15 2007 07:33 PM

I'm ornery, considering we're winning. Maybe it's because it should be like 7-0 by now, not 2-0.

Not sure why, got one out so far on a nice foul ball out.

These rare 2-run leads in the 8th inning on the road... that's why you have Endy. He puts Jete out on that one.

Nothing wagered, nothing gained.

Frayed Knot
Jun 15 2007 08:19 PM

But w/2 already out and a guy up who hasn't gotten a ball past the pitcher's mound all game (despite two hits) he's unlikely to score playing it conservative.
I didn't have a problem with the try and it took a perfect throw to get him.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 15 2007 08:23 PM

Actually I was kinda excited to see Gomez having an at-bat with the count in his favor for once, and was disappointed to see it end.

I was daydreaming about how cool it would be if he could somehow his game together up here. You know? He's getting tested plenty and maybe he starts learning something.

Kid Carsey
Jun 15 2007 08:30 PM

E88: >>>He does that every game though.<<<

I don't watch Yankee games, so I have no idea what Joe does with two outs
in any situation, unless I catch it on ESPNNews.

I'm least funny when I try to be.

Anyways, nice to see Perez outlast Asshead ... would have liked to see a
couple of more runs scored, and freakin' Delgado not look like such a schlub
at the dish, but we only have to wait half-a-day to get win number two.

I agree..Lastings Milledge..we hardly knew ya..

Franco probably wouldnt have gone if a stronger hitter were up...Decent gamble. I thought he was safe anyway

It wasn't until the 3rd fight in the upper deck -- by the 2nd inning -- that I realized that I'd always go to the Sunday night game, or occasionally the Saturday afternoon game -- but had never been Friday night at Yankee Stadium.

My favorite fan was not the drunk guys with bad heckles, or the guys trying to provoke fights (saw a Mets jersey that said YanksBlow and had number 69) but rather the woman right in front of me (wearning a pink Jeter jersey) who started having a temper tantrum every at bat -- "do something! you have to do something!"

Several Mets were very upset with the home plate ump. Beltran. Delgado. Franco got within a hair of being run at one point between innings.

Ira should be getting props here for standing up and admitting he was wrong - that doesn't happen much on the net.
