1) Yo Ass-Head. Between the spiky haircut; the 'gee don't this stubble make me look tough for the big game?'; and the 'watch me go through this childish pre-game ritual w/the Ruth monument to psyche myself up even though I didn't come to this team until my mid-30s and then only after rejecting them when I was first a FA'; nonsense, this imitating a dumb High-School jock isn't becoming a guy who has kids older than HS age you fuckin' Drama Queen !!

2) Mets strand 2 in the 1st inning !!

3) Little Ball comes through in the 3rd !!

4) DEFENSE !!!! (you knew that one was coming) Gomez robs a HR and doubles up the runner !!

5) Reyes goes Deep !!

6) Oliver retires 10 straight after Reyes' HR !!

7) Cano does Oliver several favors by going after bad 3-2 pitches !!

8) Pedro & Joe do the job in relief !!

9) More DEFENSE from Beltran

10) Wagner does the job !!

You forgot to work Mike Piazza in there somehow

As I always say, it was TEAM win!

Don't forget Paul LoDuca! Even though he's a terrible excuse for a No. 5 hitter, he CAUGHT Oliver's game!!!

Tough to work him into the game notes while he's 3,000 miles away.

In all seriousness;

- where was Matsui going? Great play by the kid but what a bonehead play! A chiller, by Godzilla !!

- Prediction: Much will be made of the small-ball "strategy" of the night but only the first SB actually help create a run. None of Reyes's three mattered in the end and the two CS (particularly the first) may have killed at least one run. The bunt hits were nice though.

- Those swings by Cano on several pitches that should have walked him are why I thought the 'Carew-like' projections for him last summer were over-blown. He's got a nice swing but almost needs to hit .300+ to be worth much.

- Torre going to Bruney w/two outs and no one on just to get Franco (who he didn't get) surprised me a bit too. Myers had just gotten 4 straight (two righties) with no ball leaving the infield.

- Delgado ... brrrrrrrr

OTOH, they did get the one run, which was what they needed to win. And the way they're hitting the two CS may not have scored anyway.

Watching the game and biting my nails to the quick thinking that Ollie's next pitch in the strike zone (if there was going to be a next pitch in the zone) was going to land on The Grand Concourse, made it all the more befuddling to hear the postgame commentary both on YES and SNY lauding his performance.

Sure he allowed no runs but that was only because the Yankees kept swinging at ball four. Had they been a bit more patient this game could've been very ugly.

On the flip side - had Delgado just met the ball with bat it could've been a blowout for the good guys.

No other player (Pete Rose does come close) has inspired such hatred in me as Clemens does, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them bunt on him...

I think I mentioned this already, but Godzilla seems to have thinned down a lot from the last two seasons - hmmmmmmmmmmm.....

I don't think Gomez' catch would have been a homer - it was great watching the reaction of the fans by the fence after they missed the ball....

That's why I think this "We're not the same team without Moises" stuff is so much deflecting crap. The Mets might be a better team without Moises. Certainly they're much better on the basepaths, and in LF. As for at bat--it's a virtual certainty that Alou would have gone through a cold streak. So overall, I don't buy that his injury has caused their recent problems. Maybe he's a net loss of a run or two, tops. If Alou was healthy, there's a good chance that ball Gomez nabbed would have been over the fence, and it's pretty sure it would have been an extra base if it didn't go over. And no way he steals a base, no way he bunts on Clemens, and maybe no way the Mets win last night.

So take that "We miss Moises" and stuff it up the crack of your hairy ass. (And if you never felt that the Mets' woes were due to Alou being out, and/or if you don't have a hairy ass, then none of this rant applies to you.)

Thank you, Ms. Met. DEFENSE and HUSTLE win!!!!

Alou is terrible at everything except hitting, Chavez/Gomez are pretty bad at hitting and good at almost everything else.

I'd have to say last night's game might have been Cargo's best as a Met and I was imagining late in the game that this extended Alou thing might actually force him to have enough experience to start overcoming his issues at the plate. That would be cool! Gomez is a big dude, 6-3 or something, and if he starts hitting with some authority he could be a scary player not unlike Reyes.

I guess the question is -- does he have Reyes' 'drive-the-ball' in him? Can he adjust so as to not make so many outs? And when?

The problem with missing Alou isn't just him but that it's coincided with the injuries to Green, Beltran (short-term), Chavez & Milledge putting us into a situation where we're depending on backup options C, D, & E - Gomez, Newhan & Ledee.
Combine that with missing a good RH bat while the LHs are slumping and his absence tends to get magnified.

Gomez certainly hasn't had the minor league power numbers that Reyes did, and the plate discipline is still a question. Good athleticism but def still a work in progress.

I thought that Cairo ball would have been out.

What I want to see is after a few bunt singles brings Arod in on the grass, Gomez lines one off his adam's apple.
