Beltran's Quad

One of the most frustrating things is the conflicting reports we get regarding injuries. In today's News, Rubin has this about Beltran's quad:

Carlos Beltran, the NL's leading vote-getter, has no intention of skipping the July 10 All-Star Game in San Francisco, even though he suggested he could use a week off to rest a nagging left quadriceps injury that he indicated was a tear.

"Three days? I don't think three days will help," Beltran said. "I don't think three days will take the pain away completely. If I make the All-Star Game, of course I want to be there."

Torn quad? Shut it down. Let it heal and be 100% for the second half.

Is Beltran going to be one of those players that injured every season with these niggling injuries, yeah he's injured but can play with it...never allowing him to have a great year....like CF said sit him.

Remember the discussions about signing Vlad Guerrero when he was a free agent? The nay-sayers said he "had a chronic bad back". Beltran seems to keep getting quad injuries.

Beltran's sending mixed signals, which isn't helping. He's hit like shit since the end of April, which also isn't helping. If there's a definite connection between his quad and his slump, then he should have told the manager and trainer before talking to the media about it. And of course he should sit in that case, because he's not helping the team by playing.

The same thing affected him in '05 -- long stretches of ineffective but not compltely disabling play. The team IMO shoulda learned then there was no playing through it. OI know the timing isn't great but unless he starts whacking those XBHs again I'd send him to the DL for awhile.

There's also the other side of the coin. Alou refuses to come back unless he feels perfect.

i think

if we were able to have a starting outfield of Endy/Lastings, Moises & Green that they'd be fairly comfortable letting carlos go down for 15 days around the all star break. right now carlos going down means gomez is starting full stop and our starting left fielder would be Rickey Ledee.

It wouldn't be pretty having a 6,7,8 of valentin, ledee & gomez,

it's funny (but not ha ha funny) how his quad seems to hamper him more in making him swing and miss than it does going back on a deep drive.

I don't think Vladimir Guerrero has anything to do with Carlos Beltran. All players are injury risks.

Edgy..I agree...that may scare you. I do think Beltran is overly sensitive and using the word torn is his word..not the M.D.

Beltran is just an Edgy personality....
