Jason Schmidt done for the season,he had major shoulder surgery in LA on June 20th.

]

Dodgers trainer Stan Conte said Schmidt had surgery to repair an inflamed bursa, a torn labrum and a frayed biceps tendon in his right shoulder. Both the labrum tear and the frayed tendon were unexpected.

Conte said the torn labrum is the most serious aspect of the surgery, performed in Los Angeles on Wednesday evening.

"The rehab has to go slower," Conte explained. "It has to attach back to the bone and that takes some time. The whole process is slowed down."

Seems like just about anything that can be injured in his shoulder is.

I can't see the Dodgers as being for real at all.

Oh gee is THAT all?
I didn't like that signing from the beginning due to his age and recent less serious injuries, but that's a real kick in the pants to LA.

In other less drastic news:
- Boston puts Curt Schilling on the 15-Day although no structural damage was supposedly found on his aching shoulder. I heard Peter Gammons on the radio yesterday saying that Schilling was so involved in off-field stuff over the winter that he came to camp somewhat out of shape and not having thrown and this all may be a result of that. Tough to just pick it up again like that when you're over 40.

Florida hurler Anabel Sanchez out for the season (shoulder).

Just typing that I realize how long it's been since we've seen anyone in the NL East. Just that one Philly series about 3 weeks ago.

too much AL-BS lately. we see the phillies again next weekend but don't see another division team until the last weekend in July! (nats) and the braves and marlins don't play us until they roll through Shea back-to-back August 7th-12th. thats a loooong time to not see a division rival (we last saw both teams at the end of May.)

This schedule drives me nuts. I want games against the NL East. I want to now the Phillies' middle-relievers' health problems and the Braves' issues with their fifth outfielder better than I know my own kids' names.

I don;t, OTOH, give a medium sized doody about the Minnesota Twins, and resent any attention that I inadvertently have to pay to them.
